Just browsing through the episode guide on Popscene it states 19-4-73 (30) CARLY SIMON – The Right Thing To Do (danced to by Pan’s People) >> Full line-up TBC
Does anyone know if the line-up for this show was ever announced and if so what it was,i know the previous show the 12-4-73 wasn't recorded because of a BBC strike.

They mention the (Daily Mirror) tabloid newspaper Alan.
I have a large collection of the Disc and Music Echo pop newspaper from 1969 to 1971 and they used to have a list of which group or solo artist was going to be on Top of the Pops that week. It was very useful.
But by 1972 the D&ME had stopped giving those lists of TOTP.
Other pop newspapers were not very good at giving details as to whom was on TOTP that week.

Just out of interest what was the BBC promo for 'Drive in Saturday'? Does anyone have details of the content? Also wondered if it may be held as part of the existing TOTP film collection from 1970 onwards?

According to Ray Langstone from a previous thread and post on this very subject:-
In regard to Drive-In Saturday, nothing seems to exist of a film to accompany this at the BBC (as Bowie WonderWorld corectly state).
It is in the style of films made by Caravel Films of Slough (inactive, but still extant as a company!)

What gets me is that if a BBC promo for "Drive In Saturday" was shown on the 19/04/73 or even exists why no mention of it whatsoever in the (exhaustively researched) 336 page book (David Bowie/Any Day Now The London Years 1947-1974) by Kevin Cann?
Anybody who has the book will know that Kevin Cann's book covers covers David Bowie's activities on a day by day basis. So it would have to be a glaring admission to forget to include any such promo film?

And yet several people not only on this forum but on others have said they remember seeing it here's a couple of posts from the David Bowie Wonderworld site.

A promo film of "Drive In Saturday" was certainly shown on Top Of The Pops 18th May 1973. I have no recollection of the film but it does indeed sound like one of the films made by Tom Taylor/Caravel Films that were regularly seen on the programme. It doesn't unfortunately appear to have survived.

I have vague memories of seeing a video back in 1973 that featured an open top car being driven on a sandy beach with two people either filming each other or watching a video on either a small car screen or large standing screen - or possibly both. I can't recall Bowie being in the video and as the only place I would likely have seen it was on Top of the Pops, it may have been one of those films that BBC made to accompany the song.
I have searched over the years to try and find a copy but having failed to do so assumed my memory was playing tricks. Until, that is, I saw this request from someone with a very similar recollection.

I can confirm your memory from mine, Bowie was not in it....a couple in a convertible car filming each other with a then! portable video camera ( a shoulder carried reel to reel machine). I think it maybe still around. I am sure I have seen it long after the premier? but maybe does not get shown now or mentioned in Bowie fandom - possibly because it had little relevance to the song? LOL.I also seem to recall it was rather diffused looking as if to say it was trying impersonate a dream sequence..... or something like that anyway. .

OK thanks Alan and Peter for that. I know it was stated that the BBC held a large selection but not all of the TOTP films from 1973-74. As far as I know the prints and those held only as negatives now reside at the NFA. I don't think it's ever been established if or where a separate archive or collection for Caravels films exits.

I'd like to see a list of promo films that Caravel did if one existed.

Just thought I'd chip in .

I reckon GJB will suddenly put it up on his YT channel ... and take it down again when it is mentioned here LOL. .
