"the side that you voted for won." The real loser was The Establishment - and they don't lose! With Teresa May, you're about to get a front seat watching The Establishment at work. We are going to humiliate ourselves in front of the world, remaining in the EU in all but name. Just watch.... Democracy? That's a laugh! If we end up effectively staying in the EU, I hope millions of people will join me in deciding that voting is a waste of time, and that perhaps we should take to alternative methods in trying to change things. If that was true Remain would have run a much better campaign, & Leave would have not been allowed the lion's share of publicity they had. Really both sides should have been made to put together a full manifesto, with Leave not being allowed to use all the "bloke down the pub" facts & figures that turned out to be complete lies, along with a roadmap for disengagement.

Of course everyone has their own take on things, and it's obvious which side you belong to. Campaigns do not win referenda or elections - votes do! (Something politicians always fail to notice.)
Remain had every advantage, right down to the pre-campaign leaflet that the government chose not to include as part of the "official" campaign. The truth is they were just plain beaten in the referendum, mainly because people - including me - have witnessed the change in our society over the last few years. If we carry on down this road, Great Britain as we've always known it will cease to exist. I have nothing whatever against people from other lands, but those other lands are where they belong - this is our country, and we're in danger of losing it because of certain forces at work. We all know what those forces are, but we're called racist if we happen to be proud of our own heritage.

You see what I mean with people voting mainly with emotion, not logic? ...people - including me - have witnessed the change in our society over the last few years. I see: The end of the world as we know it, because of immigrants (as opposed to, say, rampant capitalism, or a combination of many other factors, or in fact simply the future that can't be stopped). And don't worry, I'm sure the illegals at Calais will all quietly go away now that you're out... It will definitely solve the problem.

Or simply because we are too lazy to do anything about people who could work but choose not to, if we had reformed our benefits system there wouldn't be the need for immigration. It's funny that Brits are allowed to settle & not make any effort to integrate. The way things are going Great Britain might be doomed anyway if the SNP have their way.

Christ on a bike Anderton! (No relation I hope.) Sinister or what? "Certain forces." "Other lands." I seem to have stumbled into a BNP rally. Well said RWel and Mr Marple. On another thread they are asking where is everybody. If this is the level of debate no wonder everyone is keeping their heads down. Stick to discussing lost Picketywitch tapes eh folks? Good clean aryan fun.

There we go.... here come the old "racist" chants!
Rob, it is not racist to want your own country to have its own individual character.
In the 60s I thought Enoch Powell was just a bigoted old racist (does that sound like I come from racist stock?). But look at what's happened to Britain today. He was absolutely correct, and I owe him a thousand posthumous apologies.
Even if the politicians don't listen, at least the people have aired their views. We saw the train coming, and got out of the way.
Let's just agree to differ; I don't understand why members get so hot under the collar because someone has a view different to theirs.
Colin.

Says the man who took his shirt off first. It's the way of things: When you get old, you become more conservative. The brexit demographics seem to show that too, with some of the pro-leave pensioners pining for the imperial units. I'm almost surprised decimal currency wasn't targeted as well. Anyway I regret ever starting the conversation in the first place; although I meant it half humourously, it brought up differences and emotions running deeper than I thought.

I would say that as long as the discussion can remain civilised, I'm happy to let it stay. However, please bear in the mind the forum rules about being polite to other members. Please bear in mind also that any global insults pertaining to voters on either side do BY DEFAULT apply to any supporters posting in here. Despite the evidence of the last few weeks, it is possible to have calm polite discussion on this topic without resorting to personal abuse. Let's play nicely, please. OK, as my request seems to have gone unheeded, this thread is now closed. I realise it's a very heated subject, about which most of us are extremely passionate, but when I see that the abuse is going via PM, it's time to draw a line. ABUSIVE POSTS OR MESSAGES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. If you feel the need to insult or belittle another member here simply for having different opinions to your own, please take a step back or DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT and find somewhere else to post. In fact, probably better if you just disconnect your internet connection. God knows, there's enough vitriol on the likes of Twitter and Facebook - the last thing we need is more of it here. Anyone who has issues with something that someone has posted (including me) or sent to them via PM should, as always be reported to a Moderator. If it breaches the forum rules, we will deal with it.
