An NME article from Feb 1971 had these comments within an article about Tony Blackburn...
When I called to see Tony Blackburn he was watching the moon landing on his colour set, one of three TV's he has in his flat. He admitted that he was mad on television at the moment. As well as the colour set, he has a portable with a 3 and a 1/2 inch screen and a large-screen video tape recorder which records TV shows instantly and can play them back at will. A great idea if you want to watch two channels!
My question is, given that we all know of Tony Blackburn's Top of the Pops career, what do forum members think the chances are of Tony, first of all taping Top of the Pops shows from the period and secondly, having taken steps to preserve them?

I bet Tony was an enthusiastic Sony CV2000 user around that time and I wouldn't be surprised if he'd bought one as soon as they were on the market- maybe he even taped 'Time for Blackburn'!
I've read a similar period article in one of the pop annuals (1969/70) about his 'pad' being fairly well equipped with all the technical toys of the day. I remember the accompanying photo showed he had a Baird 700 series dual standard colour television- one of the first on the market - next to his Sony b&w VTR (which must have had a modulator of some sorts if he wanted to use it with the Baird).
He may of course have been a keen taper of television, but was he also a keen keeper of tapes, or did he wipe them once watched? That's the big question. I've always got the impression he's an approachable chap, so I hope William's email will elicit a response from the great man.

Just received this automatic reply from Tony Blackburn's e-mail...
tony.blackburn@bbc.co.uk To WILLIAM MCGREGOR Today at 9:40 AM
Thank you for e-mailing Tony Blackburn. We usually respond within 14 days of receiving your feedback. However, because of the number of e-mails we receive, we are unable to reply to all of them. More information about our programmes can be found at bbc.co.uk/london/radio. Many Thanks.
so if anyone can maybe Twitter him that might be quicker!
cheers William

Glad you feel the same Mike! I obviously could find out how Twitter works, but I devote so much time to this forum that I don't feel the need to tie up even more of my precious time by being on Twitter. I'll leave Twitter to the young folk

We don't want to trigger an avalanche of tweets to the poor guy from a large number of forum readers. That's likely to annoy the most easy-going of folks and will run the risk of drawing no response or a hostile one. Can we, perhaps, designate ONE "tweeter"?

What you say makes sense to me Tom
O.K. folks who is going to volunteer?
and once someone volunteers and sends a tweet...that will be it done
everybody agree?

I'd wait until you get a reply to the email, or at least until he's had time to ignore it!
