Apparantly John Crome's IMDB says he directed one episode of A Whole Scene Going .
1969 Supershow 1968 The Girls (Documentary short) 1966 A Whole Scene Going (TV Series) (1 episode) - Episode #1.1 (1966)

IMDB isn't totally accurate and relies on end-users (like Wikipedia), and sometimes they are fully comprehensive and accurate, and sometimes....not at all....

Which Kinks vid was blocked ? Was it the usual Sunny Afternoon ? I can't see them on his Youtube channel at all. No, it's the video for 'Dedicated Follower Of Fashion' made for 'A Whole Scene Going On' in March 1966. It doesn't feature the Kinks at all and instead stars Willie Rushton's cousin as a Carnaby street fashion victim. The 'Sunny Afternoon' video in the snow was filmed for the Belgian pop show 'Vibrato' in early 1967 - over six months after the single came out (this also accounts for the inappropriate climate).

Apologies - just realised you probably meant the 'A Whole Scene Going On' clip of Sunny Afternoon in your original post - the one with the 3 -piece Kinks and the bad sound on the BBC's copy. For the record, it's not that clip either. Apologies for any confusion I caused by mentioning a different clip!

The Lalla Ward episode was broadcast 3 days before 'The Plague'."With the Ark infected with a cold virus...".Little did she know!

Sorry,Alan, can't remember where I might have seen it.We certainly watched TOTP at the time. I am thinking the 'Boots' promo may well have been shown on TOTP. A video was shown, and this is more likely than any others known to exist. It would have been shown on this date:- ""17-2-66: Presenter: Alan Freeman (Wiped) (13) DUSTY SPRINGFIELD – Little By Little ® (NEW) LULU – Call Me (8) PETULA CLARK – My Love ® (18) THE ANIMALS – Inside – Looking Out (4) THE MINDBENDERS – A Groovy Kind Of Love (13) THE SMALL FACES – Sha La La La Lee (20) THE TRUTH – Girl (2) NANCY SINATRA – These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ (video) (1) THE ROLLING STONES – Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown ®""

My favourite is the 'donkey' one used for Dionne Warwick's 'do you know the way to San Jose'. As you can imagine 'sitting on the dock of the bay' had a seaside theme to it for example. Often the film maker's car made an appearance in these vids ( A white Vauxhall Victor estate IIRC) so in those instances it was not stock footage.

They'd hopefully avoid a too-literal approach.I've just been reading that TV news never quite recovered from the Two Ronnies sketch where e.g. a report on a House of Lords speech by "a peer" was accompanied by a photo of Brighton pier.'Pilot of the Airwaves' went wrong on one show, didn't it?

Albatross for Albatross springs to mind. Does anyone know if this stock footage survives.

Albatross for Albatross springs to mind. Does anyone know if this stock footage survives. Very few of the 60's 'stock' promos (which are best referred to as 'non-artist' promos, as most of the footage did not feature stock footage, it was specially shot) from TOTP survive. John Henshall had one for 19th Nervous Breakdown (not to be confused with the 33 seconds of footage I found of them appearing in the studio). I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

I remember TOTP2 featured a promo for Garry Puckett & The Union Gap's Young Girl, & reckoned it looked like a Blue Peter project IIRC.

Wasn't there one for an American Soul singer featuring diners, highways, etc.? Thought it was mentioned on here a few years ago.
