Hi,
Have just found this forum and it's great!
Was just wondering if anyone knows if the following Australian sci-fi shows survive anywhere?
Wandjina (1966) The Interpretaris (1966) The Stranger (1965) Alpha Scorpio (1974) Andra (1976) Locusts and Wild Honey (1980)
I would also love to know the status of an old STV drama from the 1970s called Garnock Way?
Thanks for your help!
Martin

As regards Garnock Way, if you search under "Garnock" in the Archive Footage Search Facility at scottishtv.co.uk you get the following info:
09/05/1999, GARNOCK WAY - DRAMA, BDL4014 [tape number].
Perhaps other tapes exist but aren't indexed as Garnock Way on the database for some reason - although searching under "Jean Brodie" will generate a list of all the tapes for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

Thanks Craig,
I live in Northern Ireland and we used to get this series every Sunday lunchtime back in the 1970s. I don't think it was networked but a few ITV regions probably picked it up. Thanks for the info!

I have one episode of 'The Stranger' but I'd imagine the others exist. It was shown here under the 'Tales From Overseas' banner during a break in the 'Tales From Europe' serials.

Yes, I have one episode of the Stranger myself...which one do you have out of interest? Mine is the (slightly confusing) last episode.
I have my suspicions that this show may not officially exist as I know the ABC in Australia wiped a lot of old shows in the 70s just like the BBC.

ABC Archives inform they hold Alpha Scorpio and Andra, although rumour holds that they sent the masters of this last to Singapore and didn't recover them. ABC has shown a clip of The Stranger this year, encouraging.
I'd add:
The End Begins (1961) Vega 4 (1968) Phoenix Five (1970) Three Blind Mice (?)
This last is probably an episode of The Of Show (1977). And one from New Zealand:
The Olympic Affair (1976?)
I believe this was produced by John Barnett for NZBC, and TVNZ have inherited copies, but any more information would be appreciated.

Re. Phoenix Five, as far as I know it exists. I am in the process of dealing with a collector who has at least ten episodes (26 were made) so this number exist at least. It was shown as recently as the early 1980s on some ITV regions so I would guess there is a good chance someone taped it in the UK (even it it did turn out to be officially missing).
How did you contact the ABC archive by the way? Do they have a website?

Yes, it's pretty cool <http://www.abc.net.au/archives/>. Since a major redistribution of the Corporation they co-located their Sydney sites at Ultimo, the address given for the Archive whether or not it's physically there.

"Phoenix 5" was being aired as recently as the late nineties on some Australian stations. The prints look as lousy as they did on their first UK transmission!
Oh for a die cast model of Carl The Computeroid....

GPTV used to show "The Paul Hogan" show in the early 80's. But I never saw it afterwards. Which is kind of funny since I would have thought they would have brought it back after "Crockodile Dundee".
Ah, GPTV, all pledge drives, all the time....

I've got some ropey off airs recorded from, I believe, The Seven Network, which, have promos and ads from the early nineties..more than that, date wise, I'm afraid I can't tell you!
What's the state of play with archive material on Australian TV? Does stuff like "Number 96," "The Box," "Prisoner" etc show up anywhere now?

Well! Seven have gone up in my esteem...a little! Prisoner was repeated in the early '90s and Cop Shop in the late '90s. We're in non-ratings now, so if any of these were going to be screened now would be the time. Five year old episodes of Water Rats seem to be about as far back as they're going.
