The Scotsport 50th bash was a little better than my memory served but the only pre 80s studio footage was the often shown end of the 1961 Scottish Cup Final replay and the introduction to the 1960 European Cup Final which was from the channels 5th anniversary celebration. Other extracts were the usual suspects - England V Scotland 1961 and 1967, Scotland V Czechoslovakia 1973, Scotland V Wales 1977, 1967 European Cup Final, 1972 & 1983 Cup Winners Cup Finals and Archie Gemmell scoring against the Dutch. The Wembley 61 and Lisbon 67 footage was not even from STV who obviously no longer have the footage as newsreel extracts were used. Some footage from a Celtic Tottenham friendly in 1967 was shown (not rare) whilst a couple of brief clips I hadn't seen were from Hearts V Motherwell and Third Lanark V Falkirk in the late 50s or early 60s. There were some interesting contributions from Montford, Crampsey, Russell Galbraith and Jim White amongst others. Can't comment on the 25th anniversary show but I suspect it was pretty much the same footage they tend to roll out on such occasions. But they can't show what they don't have!

On a different note I can confirm that as previously discussed the fire at the Theatre Royal did not decimate the STV library. I am currently working beside a former editor at the channel who was off duty that particular 1969 day. He has assured me that as the fire was in the basement and the library was on the very top floor of the building the fire would not have reached that level although there would have been some smoke damage to higher floors. As I suspected this is a myth used to mask the routine junking of programmes no longer thought to be of value which was of course in line with most other TV companies at the time.

It was made clear the fire never touch the library, its a shame that rumor is still doing the rounds. Of course everyone reused the tapes to save money. Remember around that time 68-72 the ITV stations had real problems.
