I am really wondering if the Omni-Rumor killed The Underwater Menace and The Crusade as DVD releases with animation. With reports by Bleeding Cool and DWO mentioning in 2013 that a large number of episodes had been found, many fans believed or hoped that more episodes were to come. The more time that goes by, it makes me wonder if anything else is coming. If everybody had known for sure that we would still be at 97 missing episodes seventeen months after The Enemy of the World and episodes 2,4,5,6 of The Web of Fear were released on iTunes, would we have had this amount of flip flopping and confusion concerning The Underwater Menace? The only way I can characterize what has happened over the last year concerning this release is disappointment. I'm not so sure this is the fault of the Omni-Rumour, it's not like they couldn't release it again and people would have bought it. I think the issue with this release is it came about very late in the day, presumably the rest of the range had been planned and this was going to be tagged on at the end. It needed animation, as was standard with all incomplete stories, and that was planned. However when Planet55 fell through it was left in Limbo by which time Dan Hall had left. There was no one around to drive this release forward and get it out. In it's current state it's not releasable but now The Web of Fear has been released without animation it does strike me as odd the same couldn't happen here. With The Web of Fear only missing one episode now, you can probably get away without animating it since there is so much more to see. The current problem with The Underwater Menace is that people have been leaked episode 2, and there have been recons of this story available online for about fifteen years. Let's just say that they recovered episodes 1 and 3 of The Abominable Snowmen. Would they be able to successfully market episodes 1-3 without animating any of the other missing episodes? With that goofy Omni-Rumor, a certain amount of people are going to be holding back to wait for episodes 4-6 before buying anything on DVD. Everything has turned into one big mess.

It's my understanding from someone higher up the know-what's-going-on chain that the omni-rumour did cause problems with Web and Enemy when negotiations were at a delicate times. It could have axed those releases apparently. Sometimes we're our own worst enemies.

For what it's worth, a copy of a rather cryptic email from the BBC.
Thank you for your recent e-mail. We appreciate that some Doctor Who fans are disappointed that we have not yet been able to release The Underwater Menace on DVD. We would like to reassure everyone that we are currently reviewing the best way to bring fans more Classic Doctor Who titles. Please bear with us - we’ll let you know more as soon as we can. Best wishes DVD ENQUIRY LINE

That's exactly what I thought. On the other hand they might be about to announce work is about to commence on Wheel, Faceless Ones, Crusade etc with full animated episodes, etc but somehow I doubt it in the current climate.......

Maybe someone is holding it back to launch the "Download Store" mentioned in the General forum.

Alan this rumor did float around. however my understanding was that enemy/web were already turned over to paul by the time this rumor hit the only conclusion is either that these statements were made to get people to be quiet so the bbc could have their big announcement or there was more potential that never led to anything.

I think your reading too much into that email, its only as cryptic as you want it to be. Seems like a pretty straightforward reply to me

Maybe someone is holding it back to launch the "Download Store" mentioned in the General forum. The BBC Download Store was mooted for launch this Easter. Has it been delayed yet again; or is the whole thing dead in the water?

The only thing showing on the Doctor Who news site is a set of the new series on Bit Torrent (legally) and priced in dollars, so I assume this is not it.
