Yes it survives. As for the number of discs: yes that isn't right. Especially since a few of the 14 discs have four episodes. When and why the R2 set? Who knows.

So which "bits" / sketches of Python remain "lost"?

I think some of Gilliam's animations remain lost, plus the piss-drinking sketch.

Btw, I now hear a region 2 flying circus set might be underway, but will take at least another year before it's ready. It might be columbia tristar. Sounds good, so far that company did quite good DVD releases of the python films.

Originally one of the series 3episodes was to feature sketches that were deemed too offensive by the BBC boys, so they weren't filmed. These include a sketch involving a bar that serves animal-based cocktails, and a sketch where a winetaster is served glasses of human urine instead of wine. Between these were the big-nosed sculpture sketch of this thread's title(not completed due to Graham Chapman's intoxication), and the "Half A Bee" song. NOT Eric, but another song also called "Half A Bee"! Damn those censor-heavy Auntie types etc etc

What was never filmed cannot go missing. It already is, or has never existed at all.

It seems not as I have all the series myself (although a few cuts / amendments have been made to them over the years, so it's possible) but if not, what is it's origin and why did it only make the record? I've wondered this for ages. BTW,what is the other Half A Bee song then? Never heard of that one!

The other Half A Bee song is basically silly verses sung in different styles by the Fred Tomlinson Singers. There is a website called something about amusing corpses which goes into great deal about this episode but I can't think of the link offhand(sorry). The Eric The Half A Bee song is the better known one, and never featured in the telly show. The Fish Licence originally segued to a giant mayor(?), and the next year John and Eric the half an Idol wrote the song, and used it to follow-up Fish Licence for the stage show and the record. It wasn't unusual for them to stick stuff onto established sketches from the tv show for records and stage shows. The other Half A Bee song has apparently never been recorded.
