I'm struggling to get Bob and his Bounty Bar advert re-shoots out of my head.
There are people associated with these pages who know exactly what went on but I think Ian believed he had a genuine lead and involved the right people. However, in an effort to show how he felt recoveries of MEs should be handled, there was a rush to publicise the 'finds' before they had even been physically inspected. There was a flurry of Tweets, Facebook posts and posts exchanged on PMF which at the very least suggested to me that this was what happened.
I've not read of any further developments but it does all remind me of the the old fable of the tortoise and the hare.
That's not to say that I'm trying to rubbish Ian or anyone else involved because I think his efforts to publicise everything were well intentioned but it does illustrate there is some logic behind keeping a recovery process clandestine until you can confidently reveal something fantastic for everyone to watch and marvel at.

I wonder what he'd get if he did find a missing episode?! A bloody BIG list of what he would then be buying for his fiancee with the proceeds of flogging the film (after the BBC has copied it ofc).

As for the films.
NO documentation either at the BBC or AFRTS in California. NO listing times in any AFRTS magazines which have been scoured very well in numerous locations. NO photos of any prints. NO confirmed sighting of any prints. Ergo, NO prints. 'twas a load of bollox.

I wonder what he'd get if he did find a missing episode?! If I actually did find a missing episode to be completely honest I would try to stay calm and enjoy the rest of my day with my family and TRY (unsuccessfully) not to be distracted by the other events going on with my vacation. I would not have the equipment or the means to attempt to upload it to You Tube in the Philippines and Paul V had advance warned me not to use any common cleaners in an attempt to clean up the film. So I would have to wait until I got back to the USA and could take a photograph of the film and have the ability to post it to people BEFORE CONSIDERING TO ANNOUNCE that I found a film print. I would have no trouble keeping silent till WELL AFTER I got home and was able to investigate further thanks to 20 years of military training that taught me to keep my mouth shut until could confirm the facts. Then Paul V. would hopefully be dispatched (at BBC expense of course) to come out and check the film to make sure that it was actually what the can and leaders claim it was and once we confirmed that it indeed was a missing episode we could all go to the pub and celebrate (at BBC expense of course). Then the BBC would reimburse me for my expenses in locating and recovering the episode (s). This would include my round trip domestic and international air fare and the cost of shipping the said film prints back to the USA. Then once the film prints were verified and safely back to the BBC I would officially announce it

I would be happy to have the price of my plane tickets and shipping fees reimbursed by the BBC. Then I could take another vacation back to the Philippines and search some more. I would not hold the episodes for some outrage's ransom or anything like that but having my air fare and shipping reimbursed would be very fair. Also these expense's are easily verified by submitting receipts to the BBC showing the cost of the tickets and shipping fees. I would not get greedy and turn to the dark side of fandom over this. Now if the haul I found was larger than say 2 episodes the costs of shipping would naturally increase dramatically back to the USA from the Philippines. But at the same time I would have receipts from FED EX / DHL / UPS ect to support my expenses. Be thankful when I travel internationally I go by coach and not business class of first class on Cathay Pacific Airlines or the expense would really rise. For the domestic leg of my travels I use United Air Lines in the USA and Philippine Airlines in the Philippines

If what is happening with the missing eps search to date is a closely guarded secret, I never understand why we're supposed to believe a leaked announcement date - if someone leaks the date then why not also the content of the announcement? I hope we have some very good news soon and that we don't have to test "hope springs eternal" to it's breaking point.

You mean like the 50th anniversary day announcement, the Christmas Day announcement, the New Year announcement, the 50th Polo announcement and the Easter announcement. These announcements are blooming marvellous. Quite right ! I have mixed feelings in that a lot of what I was saying late last year, and getting castigated for, now appears to be more generally accepted. Look back to the release of EotW/WoF on iTunes just after midnight on 11 October 2013. There was no "significance" in that date, it was a week, or so, after the completion of restoration of both stories. I don't know how long it takes to get things uploaded to iTunes and get everything ready to go but it looks like they restored everything they had, did a "reconstruction" of WoF3 and made it available just about as quickly as possible. Yes, it was all kept quiet and PV was rather careful with what he said, but I didn't, and don't, have a problem with that. There is still a possibility that Philip Morris might recover some more but I think we can probably conclude that nothing else was returned last year. The going rate for a Dr Who on iTunes is now established at about a tenner. Times are hard so I can, possibly, see a justification for not releasing anything immediately before or after Christmas but it's now months since WoF was released on DVD and I'm sure that most fans could, somehow, scrape together a tenner.

As I said, I just don't see how recovering episodes will 'force' the return of more episodes. It makes no sense. If the odd eps were to turn up. Then if a certain you know who had them already, they would then be dupes and not worth as much as before ! Thats what i was trying to say brad Maybe thats was his thinking. They have not been proven to exist so far. So there has to be a reason ? Levine does not normally get it wrong this big ! So something is afoot Then why announce DUPLICATES had been found? The only episode in that pile that would be worth anything would've been Enemy 6 and he's already made his money from that.
