The US networks that purchased Doctor Who from 1972 onwards have been thoroughly checked. That's pretty darn thorough. And here I was considering visiting my local stations to see if they had anything. Well, don't need to do that.

I just saw that on eBay as well. Looks like it was recently found. Good thing too, the eBay version appears to have water damage.
Oh! Bernard Cribbins! What a shame that we don't have his version. :<

And as for collectors - many collectors don't care about "original reels" - a reel is a reel. So that when I run a print, I don't always rewind it onto the same reels (in fact rarely do)... I certainly wouldn't care about original reels. I was just wondering if a reel-type could be any sort of indicator as to what a mystery reel might be. I finally found out what was on that reel that looked the same as the Land of Fear. Turned out to be an educational film.

I don't think worrying about the reel is worthwhile at all; IIRC, films at the BBC were stored wound around small central hubs, not on full reels at all. The thing I recall is that when the films were junked, these hubs were knocked out and the film tossed in the skip. So, the reels like the one on the eBay auction will be one the current (or previous) owner has put the film on for projection. Which is why they differ. An un-labelled reel could contain anything! That actually clarifies some of the history of junking for me. Thanks I suppose if some of these were collected in batches ... say that some seller got his hands on a bunch of prints about to be junked by an overseas station. He would've put them all on similar looking reels that he bought. But aside from that farfetched possibility I won't stress myself over it. I recently saw a reel exactly like the Land of Fear, so it got me wondering ...

I am not sure if this topic has been discussed before, but what about the metal reels and cans themselves? I've noticed from viewing 16mm films for sale on eBay that the reels and cans are all different in their own designs. The "Land of Fear" episode that recently went up was wrapped around a unique silver colored reel that had large and small circles as a design. (Look at one of the last two images.) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16mm-B-W-A-land-fear-DR-WHO-1964-REVISED-/120873657458?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_OtherFormats_GL&hash=item1c24a1a472What might a reel or a can's design say about the film it contains? If I were to find an unmarked reel that looked exactly like the one "Land of Fear" was wrapped around, could I say that it might be a European/British film? Or would the look of a reel not matter at all in what the contents of the film would be?

Wait, trailers for the actual recovered episodes were made? I could see making a trailer for a recovered serial, but just one episode? That's like making a trailer of Star Wars, but only using film from the trash disposal scene.

Here in the U.S., and being in Vermont one of the least populated states, I've thought about putting out a classified advertisement in my local paper for "1960's 16mm BBC film" ... I know that being in the states it's a HUGE long shot, but in the end it really doesn't hurt to at least try.
Anyone here think it's a bit silly? I don't really expect anything to come of it, I just want to say "hey at least I tried, that makes me a dedicated Whovian".

Fingers crossed! I'd settle for anything - The Feast of Steven, The Space Pirates: Episode 3 or even a better quality copy of The Faceless Ones: Episode 3. I never understood some people's jokes about Feast of Steven. For unrealistic hopeful whovians like me that dream of a day all episodes are found (impossible feat, but fun to imagine) ... Feast of Steven, being statistically the least likely to show up, would be #1 on my list. BTW, I've not seen The Faceless Ones Ep. 3 ... what was the damage on that episode?

It's up to 700.00 GBP ... 1,117.69 US$. And it may be a dupe! Very nice.
They say "Third time's a charm". That must mean the next print for sale will be something the BBC would want. :3

Ah! Nice. I see they went for the one with Hartnell covered in the webbing. If you need to sell a reel, that's the image to do it with. :3 Nicely dramatic.
What do the pros on the board think about the images? I wouldn't know how to tell a dupe from an original.

According to the seller's recent note, this print has "Next: The Lion" which is an episode of the Crusades. The Crusades was not sold to the Middle East I believe, so this isn't a Middle Eastern print or dupe. I wish there were pictures

Considering that the Zarbi are a "classic" monster I wonder... I accidentally put "Zarbi" into my Twitter search bar and there were a couple people watching ep2 of this serial as well as one person hoping the Zarbi would return this year on television. Hmmm ... Matt Smith vs. the Zarbi

"The Zarbi" was the original working title for "The Web Planet". Was one of the copies sent overseas made with this title? Huh. Strange.
I wonder how far this will go without pictures? The guy does have a 100% Feedback from 289 buyers.
