There were a few films like this around this time, I guess they were popular when not everybody could see the acts live & home video was a few years away for most people.

I made the mistake of leaving my VCR plugged in even when not using it. Over the years some capacitors in the power supply wore out, but it was only after a power cut they stopped the VCR from working.
I was lucky to find the same model of VCR with a working power supply (but in worse condition) to transplant in, thinks to finding the service manual online. I kept the old power supply hoping to replace the capacitors, but the shielding looks very hard to remove to get to the board inside.
Since this I've always turned the VCR off at the wall if I'm not using it.

Video-CD (version 2 was mpg2 quality and therefore in theory identical to DVD) was really something completely different, not to be confused with any laserdisc family member. I think it was the one with a VHS level of picture quality, which probably didn't have film buffs rushing to replace their laserdiscs with them.

It's a little confusing as there were 2 CD-Video formats, one being an analogue one which was like a small Laserdisc, and a digital one (Video-CD?), which could hold about 2 hours of VHS quality picture. It's more confusing than that. Video CD was indeed MPEG1 digital video files on a CD and the quality was pretty dreadful. CD Video actually had two variants. The first was a 5" CD which was a combination of CD Audio and a short Laserdisc-format video portion. The audio section can be played on any CD player. The second variant were just straight Laserdisc in all but name and colour. These came in either 8" or 12" diameters. The "The Snowman" disc I refer to is a 12" and hence is technically just a Laserdisc but at the time digital audio was not a standard part of the Laserdisc specification and was at that point exclusive to discs branded as CD Video. OK I see, it's a little more complicated than I thought.

I remember one of my cousins getting the video of The Snowman in 1986, at the time it hadn't quite become a must watch event. I have The Snowman on CD-Video (which is really just an orange-tinted Laserdisc)! It's a little confusing as there were 2 CD-Video formats, one being an analogue one which was like a small Laserdisc, and a digital one (Video-CD?), which could hold about 2 hours of VHS quality picture.

This isn't a a series I've heard of before.
It had plenty of familiar faces involved over the years though both on screen & behind the scenes.

Bonehead was created by Shaun Sutton, later to get some high up positions at the BBC.

I remember some clips from a 1980 edition of Question Time were used on a documentary about the 1980 Olympics, with the topic being whether British competitors should join in the American led boycott.

Was the series telecined for syndication after ABC stopped networking it?

Some 1970s film stock seemed to have issues with the colour fading over time. The final fight in Taxi Driver was deliberately desaturated to decrease the impact of the bloodshed. It was intended to reprint it for the DVD release, but the original negatives had faded too much to be of use.
The Grease DVD I have has some extra / extended scenes which are only in black & white (I presume from a working print) for similar reasons.
One of the reasons George Lucas wanted to redo Star Wars was because the masters were fading, but he had a dye print made that stayed stable enough.
I remember for years I was told Blu Rays weren't work making from standard definition video tape, but technology improved to make it a viable option.

I'll have to check what my encyclopedia of TV science fiction says about it, I knew some had been retained, but I might be thinking about Captain Video, which was around at the same time.

Be reassured, you ain’t in the minority! If you’re a biological male you can get testicular cancer - whatever your gender might be. If you’re a biological female you can get cervical cancel - whatever your gender might be. These things are being driven by a small, unrepresentative, unelected and unaccountable minority - look up the long slow march through the institutions. Thanks for showing us how Stockholm Syndrome is a dangerous thing!

Wrong? Who are we to decide that? They happen to be an individual regardless. Of course they're an individual; I'm not suggesting we toss them out of society, like a milk bottle plant throwing out bottles that don't conform to the required shape. I know it's a sensitive subject, but facts still remain facts - and the "socially aware" mob are trying to remove all forms of ordered thinking from our society. Thanks for showing us how "owned" you are! What's so wrong about removing ordered thinking? though as I mentioned above it sounds like some people like to willingly surrender their thinking rights.

I've never understood why people who are supposedly against racism are happy to use that word, considering it's based on skin colour. I assume it's based on the popular notion that white men can't be the victim of racism. What’s nowadays known as “anti-racism” is predicated upon only whites being racist and that they must be discriminated against. Only discrimination against the sort of people who leave their thinking to the right wing media to the extent they might as well be owned by them!

Quote from the Mail article: "Last week she hit back at a claim on US website that she believed there are only two genders. Rowling wrote: 'Small but important point: I've never said there are only two genders. 'There are innumerable gender identities." This is where we are entering a new world, where the principle is: If you wish it, is is so". I grew up in a world where there are males, and females. There are also cases where, in nature, something has gone wrong. Sad, but a fact! I shall hold that view when I draw my last breath - because it is reality! Considering she was a left wing daring until recently it was seen as a smack in the face by many of her fans.
