Sad to hear of the passing of the remarkable Barbara Moore. If you don't recognise the name, I'm sure you'll recognise her work for both television and radio. She died in August but the obit appeared in the Telegraph a couple of days ago)
Also here's a Youtube interview from a few years ago:

Hi Peter- it could well be 'PasB' rather than pre-recorded sessions for miming purposes, as listening to the tracks again, the first one does in fact have a spoken intro from Vikki explaining her mexican ancestry and that her real name is Florencia Bisenta de Casillas-Martinez Cardona! On the quieter numbers the sound of a hand-held mic being handled is clearly heard. The only mystery is where the 'BBCtv via Leevers-Rich in Studio A' info on the tape index came from.
Hi Darren- I think you are absolutely right about 'The Arrangement' as it is indeed an operatic piece (with some jazzy sections). Like the Vikki Carr tracks, the quality is excellent. It's either a similar source to the above or a direct lead recording from a tv set, with absolutely no tell-tale background buzz. Going by the credits on the Genome link it may have been made on film or included some film sequences as the sound of a car being driven off can be heard at one point- not something you usually hear in an opera! TV Brain draws a blank under 'Opera 625' but a search for 'The Arrangement' comes up as 'existing' but doesn't mention a year. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this does survive intact in the archives, but probably hasn't seen the light of day since 1965.

I was recently given about 30 open reel tapes by a friend of mine on the usual 'you-like-this-kind-of-thing' basis. The tapes are all 7" and are a mix of classical and easy listening, the majority being straight copies of LPs plus a couple of radio recordings of shows by The Kings Singers on Radio 3 in 1977, plus something listed as 'The Arrangement', BBC2 Spring 1965'
One tape comprises tracks from various Vikki Carr LPs, but in the middle of them are a section of tracks which stood out somewhat, as they are taken from one of her BBC appearances. By luck there's a clipping from the Radio Times in the tape box with a programme listing for the show, 'Vikki Carr Part 2' and indicating the four songs on the tape. It was pretty easy using BBC Genome to discover that this show was broadcast on BBC1 on Thursday 17.2.66 at 9pm (Part One was shown the previous Thursday in the same slot).
The hand-written notes on the tape box states 'BBCtv via Leevers-Rich in Studio A (PSB)', Leevers-Rich of course being a manufacturer of studio tape machines. I don't know whether the shows had a live audience or not, but the songs on the tape are just performed in the order listed (and in excellent hi-fi quality) without announcements or applause etc. TV Brain lists this show and the one the preceding week as missing.
I know nothing about the original owner of the tapes, but it's clear he was pretty fastidious as all of them have their contents accurately hand-written. The detailed note about the source of the BBC tracks is really intriguing. Did he work at the BBC, or perhaps know someone who did? What does PSB stand for?
Not exactly an earth-shattering find as such, but an interesting fragment of a lost show.

Another really excellent peformance; the Association performing a (semi) live version of 'Along Comes Mary' in 1968. Very different to the familiar recorded version from 1966- but different in a good way...

Another good clip on Lulu's channel, this one from ITV's 'Saturday Stars' from November 1968. Looks like it survives on videotape.
TV Brain lists the series as having a different star each week and I was surprised to see the inclusion of 'Innocence Anarchy & Soul' which seems very different kettle of fish to the other shows. It was made in colour and shown at one of the Kaleidoscope events a couple of years ago to. Once seen, never forgotten! The rest of the series seems pretty tame by comparison. Mireille Mathieu must have been popular- she appears in no less than three shows! I'm guessing that the series was made by ATV?
05.10.1968 The Saturday Stars (missing) 19.10.1968 The Mireille Mathieu Show (missing) 26.10.1968 Innocence, Anarchy and Soul: 3 Chapters from the History of Rock A copy exists which has been converted from the US NTSC system. The original 2" videotape master has been lost. 02.11.1968 The Des O'Connor Show (missing) 23.11.1968 The Mireille Mathieu Show (missing) 30.11.1968 The Bachelors Show (missing) 14.12.1968 Saturday Stars (missing) 21.12.1968 The Mireille Mathieu Show (missing) 04.01.1969 The Englebert Humperdinck Show (missing)

tvbrain says:- ""Maggie Fitzgibbon (Host), Peter Cook (E. L. Wisty), Les Dawson ([Taking Part]), Thora Hird ([Taking Part]), Max Jaffa ([Taking Part]), Arthur Lowe ([Taking Part]), Vincent Price ([Taking Part]), Ted Ray ([Taking Part]), Reg Varney ([Taking Part]), The Bee Gees ([Taking Part]), Kenny Ball ([Taking Part]), Chris Barber ([Taking Part]), Acker Bilk ([Taking Part]), Hattie Jacques ([Taking Part]), Jimmy Hill ([Taking Part])."" Quite a line-up! Of course now we all want to see the whole show.
A quick google reveals that Maggie Fitzgibbon hosted 'Maggie's Place' for London Weekend in 1970, as well as acting in 'Manhunt'. Previously she had appeared in BBC soap 'The Newcomers', even recording a single for Page One records.

It's LWT's Holiday Startime, TX 26/12/1970. It's a great clip. Do we know who else was on the show?

Interesting! That's a new one on me. The only clue is the appearance of a cue dot top right towards the end of the song, suggesting perhaps it's from an ITV show, just before a commercial break. Also it looks like it should be in colour, so does it date from within the colour strike period?

Funnily enough David I also stumbled across those same clips just the other night. I must admit I've never heard of The Mike Curb Congregation, but I love 'Burning Bridges' both for the catchy tune and the great staging! They seem to have had a leaning to Godspell-era religious pop songs very much like The Les Humphries Singers who were also a large vocal group:
Interesting to note the Mike Curb Congregation also performed 'Softly Whispering I Love You' which was a UK hit for the, er, Congregation...
Lead singer on the above is Brian Keith, formerly of Plastic Penny I believe.

I guess their 'psychedelic' credentials were based on the track 'Like A Tear' which was on Bam-Caruso's 'Staircase to Nowhere' compilation LP in the late 80s. Amazingly I've just stumbled across some footage of the band recording that very song, taken from a 1969 BBC2 documentary called 'Workshop: The Same Trade As Mozart' mainly looking at electronic music composition, but taking in other aspects of the recording industry. This is fascinating- www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EAwCiI37hYSteve

If you're familiar with this UK group at all, it's odds-on you'll have seen their performance of 'The Muffin Man' on Beat Club. The group released a self-titled LP on Deram full of wonderfully catchy toytown pop-pysch tracks, a handful of which were released as single A/B sides. I just stumbled across this clip of them on french tv miming to 'Jack'- not entirely convincingly as the track is full-blown orchestral pop. In fact I wonder if they got to play on their Deram recordings at all?
Anyway, to the clip!
Steve
PS- If you've never heard the World of Oz LP, here's an outstandingly good track 'King Croesus'.

Those ultra-cheesy 'Video Sounds' intro sequences look more like the sort of thing you'd see on a VHS/Beta cassette release rather than on tv!

Hi Ray I notice those concerts in the youtube links were taped at The Theatre Royal in my home town of Nottingham. On the face of it, it sounds (and looks!) remarkably similar to ATV's Rockstage (1980) which featured a different artist each week, again recorded at The Theatre Royal, Nottingham. There was an old thread on here about it: missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/2655/rock-stage-1980-81Is 'Video Sounds' an entirely different kettle of fish? Given the location you would have thought it would have naturally been an ATV/Central venture. Steve

Some good stuff on Lulu's channel. This one has just been uploaded, showing her performing 'Feelin' Alright' on ATV's Engelbert Humperdinck Show. Is it me or are there a couple of rather clunky edits in this? Great clip regardless and one I've never seen before. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vLpe-3Uxq8

Absolutely agree David- wonderful performance and the subtle choreography add an extra layer of visual interest. Also the technical quality of the recording is- once again- stunning.
All of the Nancy & Lee sessions were superb, but Lee Hazelwood also recorded some great versions of his famous duets on his 'Love & Other Crimes' Swedish tv special in 1968 with Siw Malmqvist:
'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' (original with Nancy Sinatra):
'Sleep In The Grass' (original with Ann Margret):
'Summer Wine' (original with Nancy Sinatra):
I really wish this tv special was available on dvd!
Steve PS- How do you insert Youtube preview windows rather than just the links?
