Probably expected to hear this sad news following the death of its founder Tim Beddows at the premature age of 59.

Peter that was a very lively and entertaining half hour. Some great camaraderie in the studio with much infectious enthusiasm. Well done!

Here's the only other clip from that show i can find on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUaJDXcSoSUExcellent sound and visual quality as you'd expect from a German TV production... albeit the audio is out of sync!

Peter i've been after this German TV show for years. Here's the notes i made over a decade ago:
Cliff & The Shadows recorded this live show for German television in May 1967 and remains unseen to this day. I believe ZDF own the copyright and their studio performance was edited into two separate broadcasts.
SHOW ONE 1. Rise & Fall of Flingel Bunt (Shadows) 2. The Minute You're Gone 3. Somewhere (Shadows) 4. Time Drags By 5. Spanish Harlem 6. A Little Bitty Tear (Shadows) 7. In The Country
SHOW TWO 1. Apache (Shadows) 2. Lucky Lips 3. Move It 4. Time Drags By (Repeat from Show One) 5. FBI (Shadows) 6. What'd I Say
Clips of five songs from this show have found their way onto YouTube in the past - In The Country, Lucky Lips, Move It,Apache (Shads) and 'What I'd Say'. This final track is a real cracking performance which i have on audio. The big let-down in the whole production is the camera director - a rank amateur who infuriatingly for the most part focuses on the audience and not the performers!

The restoration of the 'Oh,What A Beautiful Mourning' episode on YouTube was done by my good friend Appzzzman. He also worked tirelessly restoring many of the grainy poorer quality b/w episodes with some superb results, albeit sourced from DVDs and not the original film elements of course. Within days of uploading these they were all too-quickly banished by YouTube citing the usual copyright infringement I'm afraid.

Does a comprehensive catalogue of ZDF German music shows exist? To me it's always seemed shrouded in mystery as to what they actually hold.
About 15 years ago I recall someone in charge with the surname Peck who defended the archive like a Rottweiller. When I made a general innocuous inquiry re archive status he nearly bit my hand off!
Even if progress has been made since then, i understand their footage is expensive to clear anyway.

Former big band singer Betty Miller earned the nickname 'A Baby Atomic Bomb' for her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. She started off as a vocalist with the Sid Phillips Band in 1953, and in 1955 her solo career took off with appearances at the Embassy Club and Claridges 'Cafe de Paris'. During late 50's Betty was much in demand for package shows, often in those headed by Art Baxter and his Rocking Sinners. She made her television debut on "Showcase". In the mid-sixties she married a Major in the US Army and returned with him to the States. I believe she passed away in California some time ago.
I only became aware of Betty Miller because she made two appearances on Jack Good's Oh Boy! TV show and a good quality audio recording came into my possession from one of those shows- 7th February 1959 - in which she sings two numbers: 'Ma,He's Making Eyes At Me' and the upbeat spiritual 'Wonderful Time Up There' to close the show. I have attached a few pictures from that finale - featuring Betty Miller, Marty Wilde and Bill Forbes. Another picture shows her at rehearsals with Lord Rockingham saxophonist Red Price.

Thanks John. I see ITV still hold the 16mm original. Saturday Spectaculars made in 1960 appear to be well represented in their archive. Ideal for a Talking Pictures season I would say- if a realistic fee can be negotiated.

I'm also baffled who the host is. The poster says there is more to come.

Previously unseen footage of organist Cherry Wainer and her drummer/partner Don Storer. I'm intrigued which TV music/variety show this clip from 11th May 1960 was taken from? www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-VLRVo3XUk

Wonderful news, I am especially intrigued by the two new Sunday Night at London Palladium finds. I hope they date from the 1961-1964 seasons which from memory have no surviving footage at all. For the benefit of those of us not on Facebook John, would you kindly share all the details on this forum as soon as they are released?

Fascinating discovery I do hope there's more of this show to see!. For years i've bemoaned the fact so few SNALP shows survive, with precious few to my knowledge from autumn 1960 until autumn 1965. With each Palladium season running for over nine months, (averaging say 40 shows per year?) even during that five year period alone the total number of missing shows must be close to 200!.. a tragic loss by any measure.
One of the major attractions for me each week was that the star turn was given the whole final third of the show (15 mins) to perform an average of five songs plus perform a short comedy skit with Bruce ,Norman or Jimmy.
Peter here's broadcast data i made some years ago about each season from 1959. I don't know if these are still accurate and up to date, but if you could bring me up to speed with surviving episodes that would be most welcome.
1959-1960 Season: 13th Sept.1959- 19th June 1960 1960-1961 Season: 11th Sept.1960- 2nd July 1961 1961-1962 Season: 10h Sept.1961 - 24th June 1962 1962-1963 Season: 16th Sept.1962- 23th June 1963 1963-1964 Season: 15th Sept.1963- 28th June 1964 1964-1965 Season: 20th Sept.1964- 13th June 1965 1965-1966 Season: 19th Sept.1965- 12th June 1966 1966-1967 Season: 2nd Oct. 1966- 11th June 1967

Just to let you know BBC4's Shadows documentary, which includes footage of their first TV appearance on 'Oh Boy!' will be aired on 1st May. Also featured will be Jack Good's promotional film of 'Apache' recorded in London's Park Lane in September 1960.
The BBC apparently asked production company Spun Gold if there were any groups left 'that hadn't been done?' The BBC were unenthusiastic about The Shadows but reluctantly agreed to its commission if it was made on a shoestring budget...which it was and completed in just 6 months! I offered them the 'Oh Boy! clips to liven up a documentary which would otherwise be padded with the same old BBC and Studio Canal footage everyone had seen time and time before.
"THE SHADOWS AT SIXTY" Friday 1st May 2020 at 21:30
"A look back at the incredible success of The Shadows as they celebrate their 60th anniversary. Starting from where they began as The Drifters to then becoming the backing band for Cliff Richard and enjoying huge success in their own right, the programme celebrates The Shadows’ achievements across a time of constant change within the social, cultural and musical landscape.
The Shadows were at the forefront of the UK beat boom generation and the first backing group to emerge as big stars in their own right. Using unseen archive, personal testimony and interviews with the band, along with those they influenced, including Brian May, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, The Shadows at Sixty is not just a trip down memory lane, but an in-depth, often emotional story of a group’s journey through six decades."

Here's a clip from one of the two new 'Oh Boy!' shows (15th November 1958) with Cliff Richard following hot on the heels of 'Move It' with his 2nd single release 'High Class Baby'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsTAGH_2ilUThis was ABC's earliest experimental attempt at recording the show.

Hi Dave. Two 'Oh Boy!' shows have been found in the last seven years, one by myself and the other by KAL's Chris Perry dated November 1958 and March 1959. They now join the two episodes held in Studio Canal's archive for 60 years bringing the total number of surviving shows to four.
Hopes for the discovery of a further missing show ended in disappointment late last year. On transfer it was found to be yet another copy of one of the two Canal prints.
Performances from both new shows were shown at last year's Cinema Museum event. Any TV producer can license clips from these shows from Canal for broadcast. Unfortunately they have not elicited any interest whatsoever. A sign of the times.
A clip from my lost show will be featured on a forthcoming BBC4 documentary about the Shadows due for broadcast shortly....possibly in the next few weeks. The documentary tentatively titled '60 Years of The Shadows' features their first solo television appearance on 'Oh Boy! in March 1959 with Hank Marvin & Bruce Welch sharing lead vocal on their first single 'Feelin' Fine' . The Shadows -or Drifters- as they were called- saw themselves as a vocal group back then. It's hard to believe they were only 17 years of age. Their first hit Apache was still another 16 months away!
