Peter I believe this was one of two promo videos the Shadows filmed for 'Top Of The Pops' on some freezing south coast beach back in February 1967. The two songs filmed were 'Maroc 7' and 'Bombay Duck' which aired on TOTP on 13th April and 11th May 1967 respectively.
I have seen bootleg copies of this before but not great quality like this!
No idea who the girl is though.

Yes an excellent story last Thursday starring wonderful Freda Dowie as the slightly unhinged and mentally fragile teacher who took an 8 year old schoolboy home with her... because he 'looked so perfect'. Great acting, incisive script and superlative production . They don't make 'em like this anymore!

Cliff Richard performing 'Where Did Our Love Go' comes from the 1964 Royal Command Performance broadcast by the BBC on 2nd November that year. From memory Cliff sang 'Wonderful Life' (the title track from his new film, 'Twelfth of Never'(a Top Ten hit for him that year) and closed with the Supremes 'Where Did Our Love Go'. The Shadows performed their current hit 'Flingel Bunt','Tonight'(from 'West Side Story') and the folk song 'Five Hundred Miles'(vocal).
There's a wealth of unseen clips from other artists in this Royal Variety Show too, but until recently the sclerotic BBC never made a decent transfer of it. Little wonder its contents have rarely been seen.

It appears Noel Cronin must have been reading this thread and today he has some good news to impart!
<Noel knows many of you were disappointed about the announcement about Crown Court so we are trying it again in a NEW SLOT with three episodes back-to-back in one day from the very first episode on Thursday 7th March at 3pm! Can you spread the word? If this gets the audience levels we need then there may just be good news… We’ll show the first episode of 1972’s three-part Doctor's Neglect at 3pm, followed by episode two at 3.30pm and episode three at 4pm. Remember every Thursday at 3pm.>

Noel mentioned in a recent Footage Detectives that 'Crown Court' would be discontinued because the afternoon viewing figures were too low to justify the cost of licencing them. An evening slot would have given it a ratings boost in my opinion. Noel also mentioned they were very expensive to licence.
So sad as this was a top-notch series superbly scripted by writers who were obviously fully conversant with all aspects of the law, and I remember marvelling at such eloquence even as a schoolboy. Also noteworthy for featuring numerous young actors who went on to become household names. Redolent of happier days for me bunking off school watching this followed by the wonderful Mavis Nicholson in 'Good Afternoon'. Always Turned off an awful piece of trash that followed which featured a lot of jibbering housewives. 'Houseparty'I believe it was called.

Some wonderful footage here and thanks for uploading all these screengrabs Michael. It's almost like someone has opened the floodgates and we are being deluged with unseen gems for the first time in 60 years.
Even the notoriously unapproachable and punitively expensive 'Reelin'In The Years' is giving us a sneak preview into its own unique treasure trove before we all curl up and die. Miracles never cease!
Has any of this stuff appeared on YouTube yet, and if so has it been flagged up and taken down?

Looks like you have done some sterling work on this most comprehensive compilation Ash so well done.
I have some encouraging news to impart regarding my own long running 'Oh Boy!' project you will be pleased to hear. I finally have clearances for two of my three documentaries with a distributor on board too... so both should be seeing the light of day in the next few months.I will start a new thread on this soon to give you more detail.

Happy Xmas to you John. 20 years ago these discoveries would have generated quite a buzz on this forum. These days.... NOTHING! Times and demographics are-a-changin' faster than we could ever have imagined! It would be nice if Tim Disney or Paul V could enlighten us with an update because they are in the know. These forums will die slowly if they don't throw us the occasional titbit. For the amount of research we put in here, we do deserve at least that. Not too much to ask is it?

ATV The Tommy Steele Show: The Squire 8.00 - 9.00 pm Christmas Night 1960
Tommy plays a squire to his Baron played by Bernard Cribbins, with Peggy Mount. Songs: 'Early In The Morning', 'Moses Supposes', 'Family Tree', 'Woman From Liberia', 'The King's New Clothes', 'Everyday' and 'Boys and Girls'. My thanks to Kevin Clark for this info.
Interesting to see Tommy cover a few songs made popular on 'Oh Boy!' in this show!
I wonder what other gems will emerge from Francis Essex (ATV's 'Mr Variety') recently recovered archive? The two clips shown so far on FD (the other being the Alma Cogan Show (September '59?) all come from that 1959 -1960 period.

Yes that's the one Ray. There are also more clips from the series on the enigmatic 'Pooley' tapes- Over 36 computer tapes listed in an aborted Ebay auction more than 15 years ago which Kaleidoscope dismissed as a 'con' and wouldn't play. A few members here persisted- including a trip to Wales by one member -and we finally proved they DID play.
Thanks to us, KAL have been in possession of those tapes for several years now but we've heard nothing since. Not only that but an additional >30 tapes were added to that haul after the event. Not one update. Not great PR is it?
John's idea of hosting a roller-coaster show featuring Ray's unseen gems is an excellent one. It would certainly knock the recent Basil Brush Show event into a cocked hat.

Yes great work Ray. You're a super sleuth whose prolific output delivers like clockwork every time. If you ever decide to put all this in book-form it would give even Peter Check a run for his money... although being the magnanimous guy he is, he would warmly welcome that.
I used to speak to the guy who taped all three 'It's Cliff Richard' BBC series in 1970, 1971 and 1972 (well the Cliff parts/duets specifically plus comedy sketches, and the Morecambe and Wise style play each week)
He recorded the first series simply with microphone in front of his TV. By 1971 he was making direct line audio recordings.. although some weeks he reverted to the primitive method.
I spoke to Cliff's late manager in the 90's and he confirmed that the series never sold abroad. All three series were wiped (39 shows) and Cliff was rightly upset because its production values were superb. Cliff, Hank and lovelorn Una Stubbs had a unique comedy magic all their own which can be seen in the sole surviving 'Cliff in Scandinavia' TV special filmed in October 1970.
All these decades later I still believe a few more 1970 episodes are out there moldering somewhere. Show 5 (with guests The Shadows) was kept by the BBC as a 'token episode', opening and closing highlights from Show 12 have also emerged ('On The Beach/Rock'n'Roll medley) and recently a BBC promotional film targeted at American broadcasters emerged featuring short clips of Cilla, Rolf,Cliff and Morecambe and Wise from their shows during that period. A clip of Cliff singing 'Ain't Nothin' But A Houseparty' from show 9 on Sat.28th February is included in the compilation.

On 'Footage Detectives' recently Noel Cronin revealed that "some real gems" had been recovered from the estate of the late Francis Essex, former head of Light Entertainment at ATV. The clip shown was from an Alma Cogan 1959 Val Parnell 'Saturday Spectacular'.
Do you know which other titles were found in this lost haul?

Jeff that clip is from Cliff's first six part series for ATV. Alma made a guest appearance on 9th March 1961 show. Other guests during the series included Marty Wilde, Kaye Sisters,Lyn Cornell and Petula Clark.

Alma Cogan's 'Saturday Spectacular' from 19th December 1959 featured Cliff and The Shadows as star guests. The filmprint was recovered and added to the ITV catalogue in about 2018 by Tim Disney who now works there. As ITV charge a hefty fee to supply a 'screener' I am unable to confirm if the clip is indeed from that show. The set doesn't look very Christmassy so I have my doubts. . Cliff made his debut appearance on Alma's ATV show on 5th September 1959 which is missing. Cliff that week had just recorded the evergreen ballad 'I Don't Know Why' for his forthcoming LP release 'Cliff Sings' ... coincidentally this is the number he's singing with Alma in the clip!
If i were a betting man I'd plump that this is the new show that's been found!

Probably expected to hear this sad news following the death of its founder Tim Beddows at the premature age of 59.
