The best TOTP cock up has to be All About Eve-Martha's Harbour when the tape they were miming to could be heard by the viewers but was silent in the studio so they just sat there doing nothing for half the song.
Another one I remember was during Eighth Wonder-I'm Not Scared where in the middle of the song you got a very brief burst of applause, proving that the applause you hear at the end of every song is taped, so the real audience know when to applaud!

I'm buggered if I can find the original thread, so I'll use this one instead to mention the fact Paul Vanezis' Apollo 11 programme finally gets a repeat screening this Sunday at 11.30 p.m. I missed it back in 2007, so I'm glad I'll finally get a chance to watch it! I missed it, but Virginmedia has it on demand so I'll watch it tomorrow. I just watched the first few minutes and they messed up the aspect ratio, stretching the 4:3 into widescreen so everyone looks short & fat. Anyone know if this was BBC4's fault or Virginmedias?

I remember a Blue Peter from about 1993 where the presenter was going around the old Lime Grove studios . A time capsule was found in a wall with 2 films in it . One film had crumbled away but the second film did actually work. I`m not sure what it was of. I remember that. The Blue Peter woman unravelled a few feet of one of the films and held it up to the light pretending to look at what was on it. I'd put money on that being the one that later crumbled. The other one had footage of Queen Victoria in a procession.

I remember seeing Melissa Etheridge for the first time on an Island Records 25th anniversary show, broadcast in 1987 (sadly I don't think it has been released, I'd love to see her performance again). I wonder why the 50th anniversary is only 22 years after the 25th?! ;D

Hello Everyone ... I just wanted to post here that i have discovered a Reel to Reel Tape in my collection. This is a 3 inch reel recorded at 1 7/8 of the beatles on BBC Radio Programs such as Saturday Club, Pop Go the Beatles and Easy Beat. After i transfered the tape to CD i been doing a lot of Research and i have found that all of the Songs present on this reel have been circulating among collectors. Do your recordings contain any of the talking bits between the songs? With many of the songs from the BBC sessions existing, it's the talking bits that are in some cases lacking. For example all the songs (and some talking bits) exist for the Pop Go The Beatles shows but each one lasts approx 15 to 18 minutes when the complete shows were half an hour (the extra stuff would be a guest, but it'd still be worth hearing). Do you have any of the complete shows?

And there was the Blue Peter one where they did a feature about the production of a replacement doorknocker for Durham Cathedral, ending showing the two doorknockers side by side, ending with Simon Groom uttering the immortal words "What a beautiful pair of knockers." I saw it go out live although it's been much-repeated. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSO3-jKoRBQThat's as good as the batsman's Holding, the bowler's Willey ! Does anyone know if that one still exists or even what year it might have been?

Ah, that's interesting. Anyone know if any of the BBC/ITV TV coverage survives from that night?

Another point is that the footage of the existing stories appeared much longer than the non existing sequences and in each case showed a main subject like the monster. In the non existing stories it appears none of the main subjects are shown. Curiously when a Cyberman goes to speak in Tenth planet it cuts off. When Jamie turns to see a Macra; it cuts off. None of the men in Armour or Horse of Troy of Myth makers are seen. I've sometimes wondered why a lot of the off-screen clips are so short. What logic was going through someones mind when they decided to film something of lesser significance for only 3 seconds?

I've seen cans of film stored in a slightly damp garden shed for a couple of decades - rusted through and damaged beyond repair, so after 30 years in a landfill they'd stand no chance, so sadly they're gone, as is the extended footage of The Exorcist that's also supposed to be landfill under a motorway somewhere.
