Just on a side note whilst I read this interesting discussion.
I'm living in Australia and I know virtually nothing can be expected to be found (most DW material was found in the national archives) though there is always the possible someone managed to hold on to a tape etc.
I guess my question is, is it possible that Australian military bases inside the country or some of our smaller external territories/ex-territories may have received them?
Obviously places like Indonesia and papa New Guinea can be crossed off the list but does anyone know of any places that military bases may have gotten exclusively or places besides the mainland and New Zealand that nah have gotten copies?

The Former Harold E. Holt Communications Station in Western Australia had an internal on base AFRTS Feed in NTSC only. the Australian Defense Department would not allow for over the air NTSC broadcasts so only those living on the base in the Barracks could see it. the base did have a full TV studio from 1967 onwards. Now the base was serviced over the air by the ABC Western Australia Rural Network out of Perth so those living in the nearby town could have also seen Doctor Who on the ABC. . .

Would you happen to know if that has been checked?

No I don't. Western Australia is a little out of the way for me here in the USA. Now I have checked former US bases in the Philippines when I visit there each March but No I don't think any one has checked that Australian base or any of the others that may have been out there.
Same with Christchurch in New Zealand

I might do some emailing. Though I don't live in Western Australia, I work at the ABc retail division. Though I'm not even close to having access to that area or information, it is quite easy for me to get into contact with people as in my experience ABC staff are always more than helpful to direct me to someone who can lend a hand or provide some information However I have to say that I'm sure there will have been many doctor who fans who have requested this information

Why contact the ABC they had nothing to do with the AFRTS Station on the base. You want to go threw the Australian Department of Defense to see if they can point you to some one at the base who might be able to do an inventory or see if anything might have been left when the USA ended its presence in 1993

Have contacted friend in national archives. Already have a phone number etc. We are making contact shortly. I will keep everyone informed. The ABC have nothing to do with the defence dept. They are well aware of missing material.

Good Show
Some one going about it the right way. Getting in touch with the Australian Department of Defense is the best way to obtain information on the former U.S. / Australian Naval Base. you might also be able to contact the Royal Australian Navy as well. they might still have presence there.

Actually I just realised I know a cameraman who is ex-RAF. He most certainly knows some Navy communication guys as we have talked about navy comm systems. I might just fling off an email to him on the off chance he knows someone who knows something.

I thought you said it is now used as part of the ABC's rural network. Sorry about that. In that case things would be far more difficult to attain assuming anything exists. Though I'm sceptical that anything could be found, stranger things have happened

If he has we'll know about it very shortly. He was chasing up further leads the last time we got an update on it but we've yet to hear anything.
