Ian's heart is in the right place but he sometimes has all the subtlety of a tsunami ! Yep. Won't hear a word said against Ian. He's put his money where his mouth is on more than one occasion (unlike some) and he genuinely loves Doctor Who and wants all those missing episodes found as much as we do. Good on him once again. Shame there was no Space Pirates in there as I am currently listening to the audio and find really enjoying it. Or the 2 missing parts of The Invasion but you never know what this new haul might lead to...

This is interesting, just as the B&W T/Rs of the Sea Devils were found "16mm copies of all six episodes of The Sea Devils were found on an air force base in the Ascension Islands." it looks like the military had T/Rs to watch. With only 7 of 44 episodes from season 6 missing, its a lot harder work than with season 4 & 5 to find the missing ones.
Its great that another 5 have turned up. People said that it would be hard to find the Troughton episodes, compared to the Hartnells, but in the last two years, the missing count is 10 compared to 1.
Well done Ian, hope this gives more leads to follow up.

Also, does this potentially give more credence to the claim that Macra Terror (or part of it) was screened at a school in New Zealand in the mid 70s? If copies were shown to the military, surely this a similar scenario? Intriguing!

I'm curious why he thought that there would be 8 reels. Either a mistake, or three reels missing?

That's great news. I can't wait for all returned and that I would be able to 1963-2014 with no pictures and audio put together. Eventhough I still enjoy them.

I'm curious why he thought that there would be 8 reels. Either a mistake, or three reels missing? Because the holder of the 8 episodes did some research and realized that 3 of them were missing from the BBC archives? And that a great amount of money could possibly be extracted if negotiations with the right people were carried out?

And that a great amount of money could possibly be extracted if negotiations with the right people were carried out? I wouldn't want to theorize something like that. I'm more inclined to believe it was a mistake in paperwork or miscommunication. What I really want to know is more about these reels. Are they fresh copies? Are they left over from a bicycle chain? Could they be Australian in nature? Singaporean?

When all of us saw this, we immediately thought, "how silly!" I'm not talking about the episodes in question, but the LOCATION. A "backhouse in Korea"?! www.doctorwhoisepic.com/2/post/2013/11/missing-episodes-found-update.htmlBut then these 5 duplicates turn up from Taiwan (regional), and were previously shown to soldiers in Vietnam (also regional). Perhaps a "Korean backhouse" isn't so silly after all?!

There is definitely a tale to be told here that could be as interesting as Philip Morris'.

If that is the case the missing count will at least go down by three, and reduce the number from season6 down to 4 missing when they are returned sometime in the future

More likely mis-remembered how many. I mean come on, Ian's no amateur. He famously held back copies in the 80s (something which is now used against him sadly) in order to use as bargaining material. If his contact suddenly realised how much they were worth Ian would be exactly the right person to negotiate with. I expect he'd pay for them out of his own pocket if it came to it. He wouldn't wait for an okay from the BBC. If there are more to be found they will be found. Not everything is a conspiracy or some money grabber hoarding episodes until the BBC pony up.

As far as I know the BBC never have and never will pay for recovered material.

Spoken like a ringleader of a plot! But seriously..... A hastily handwritten "5" could very easily be mistaken for a hastily handwritten "8". That's more than likely the case here.
