The recent slew of piss-poor releases of Beatles stuff under the 50 year copyright law is very worrying and saddening.

Quick note those pictures I posted are from a flickr account and are not mine. Regarding the Scene at 630 with the twist and shout clip, wasn't she loves you performed as well and if it was is it out there? Also I read that in march 63 the beatles appeared on a news show and had a lucky stars clip aired which means it was taped, but when the clearout happened with ABC was it trashed then? Being a regional news magazine programme, it probably went long before that. I can't remember offhand which other song they performed in addition to Twist & Shout but the Lewisohn book will tell you.

If there is truth to what that article says, it could right a lot of wrongs, considering the significance of the material. Having the juke box jurys, TOTP, and lucky stars appearances would be unbelievably great. According to one of the comments Africa was the location of where tapes were found kind of strange but if true maybe people have been looking for shows in the wrong places.

I hope this is true but as far as i can tell this rumour has sprung out of the Dr Who omni-rumours so i would urge caution. Of course if it is true what makes anyone think Apple will let us see any of it. Washington Coliseum,Shea,Let It Be,promo films etc. have not been issued yet. If anything is found Apple should restore it and then just give it to the bootleggers/torrents who have been doing their job for them for the best part of 40 years. I'd much rather see an official product but i find it hard to believe that will happen. I wrote this with my official limited edition White album ball point pen. I'm off to find some screen cleaner.

Exciting if true, but I'm leaning towards Ashley's position in terms of optimism.

I just read the blog article that Charles was kind enough to link to and I have to ask the experts here - was top of the pops sold to Africa then? Would the UK chart have been of massive interest to them, maybe a few years after the fact, or were certain performances edited and sent over there? Seems a bit odd to me if they were buying runs of mid 60s totps, but I really am not an expert on this.
Did Africa buy 60s totps episodes? Anyone?

No one I've ever asked has seemed to know for sure. I'm not aware of any complete TOTP editions being recovered from overseas (at least so far), with most recovered material from abroad being in the form of clips. Any complete recovered editions seem to have come from within the UK, from various sources. I've heard though, that (as an example) prints of TOTP might have been circulated to the forces overseas, along with other UK TV. So it's an area that needs to be looked into properly, in my view.

The television service of British Forces Broadcasting Services only started in 1975. Unless, of course, someone else handled forces broadcasts prior to then.

That must be so as the period referred to was the 1960s. Probably either a different body or done on a different basis.

If africa does hold a portion totp, i'd be curious if episodes/clips of lucky stars, discs a go go, scene at 630 went there too.

Probably not Scene At 6.30 as it was a regional news magazine programme (although possibly the Beatles appearances might have had a wider circulation as clips). With general music and light entertainment shows though, anything is possible. Again, more research needs to be done on this.

Some African countries were very keen on the burgeoning 'pop culture' so may well have footage on I think there's realistic chances of more recordings being located all over the world by way of 'physical' search - but who does it and how far do you go?
