Here's a challenge for all you archivists: did this talent show get much press coverage? I suppose local papers would have been keen... It got a slight mention on another thread missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/7773 but I'm wondering what there was in print? (A new thread on the MC site reminded me about this).

Hi John,
NME 11th September 1964
page 8, has a small article about The Bo Street Runners winning "Ready Steady Win"... all it says is that immediately after the show the group signed a contract with Decca and were rushed to the studio to make their first disc "Bo Street Runner".
They won a £1,ooo for winning.
Chairman for the final panel was Brian Epstein, and it's members were Bill Haley, Brian Matthew, and Georgia Brown.
NME 2nd October 1964
mentions the group were going to be a late booking for that night's edition of Ready, Steady Go!
I also recommend a book called Then, Now and Rare British Beat 1960-1969 by Terry Rawlings published by Omnibus Press , it has an article on the Bo Street Runners on page 31 along with 2 b/w pictures.

There's a bit about the Vulcan's tracks here: www.strawbsweb.co.uk/@f/f_fenda.htm I'm sure lots of the bands and their fans taped performances off the TV.Where are they now?

Thanks!
It's very unlikely that any footage from these programmes will have survived, I'm afraid (especially considering it was made by Rediffusion, whose archive was largely junked - what officially survives is now with the BFI, although it doesn't include anything from this series as far as is known). Sorry to give such a negative reply but that's the state of play.

i wish ITV plc would've held the archives for every single ITV company in it's history. i recall when they sold the children's film foundation archive to the BFI they should give the rediffusion archive to them & if disney sold their stake in GMTV to them & became ITV breakfast & daybreak should've take full control of the vaults of TVS as thank you gifts.

I am sat with Clive Booth from the Deltones, he has a rare CD called Ready Stray Go + Win! By See For Miles Records 1992. 22 tracks by bands from the competition. His original LP was nicked so he was grateful for this CD this Christmas.

Hi John, I was at the National Library of Scotland yesterday, and I noticed a wee mention of the TV show Ready,Steady,Win in the Edinburgh Evening News and Despatch from 18/4/64 I did'nt have the time to take a note of what it said as I'm busy doing a football project just now,but I will let you know what the article says next Tuesday. cheers William
