I'm concentrating on the B/W era at the moment but it appears that the same applies to all the colour material apart from Further Tales which survives intact.

To recap, all the episode masters are currently lost following the sales of all the archive material to SW Films which has subsequently gone bust. The only survivors known so far from the black & white series are the 6 episodes on the 2 VHS releases. (Plus now the episode you mentioned above, A ride on guinea's jeep). All I've done is buy VHS copies off EBay and use a 6 head Sharp VHS & record using HQ setting to DVD-R, using HQ cabling, etc. To be fair the results are pretty good. I have had to buy another VHS copy of Hammy leaves home off EBay as the original was damaged, looks like I will have to try and get a copy of A ride on Guinea's Jeep too! If anyone is aware of any more episodes on official VHS releases please let me know as it is probable that this is all that survives. I've got the Watch with Mother : The Next Generation VHS tape if you want to borrow it to create a copy - I've digitised all of my home-grown tapes but the pre-recorded ones are mostly copy-protected so haven't done anything with any of them. As I say, you're welcome to 'have a lend' but you can probably pick one up on eBay for less than the price of 2 lots of postage! Just let me know.

Seems that in all probability, the BBC doesn't own this series (any longer). So it doesn't make much sense for them to keep copies. I guess there's a logic in that.

Nice one Dale, will price up a VHS and let you know either way. Does anyone know if there are any more individual episodes on compilation Watch With Mother VHS tapes? I am an uploading novice on You Tube, but if someone wants to PM me with an idiots guide then great or alternatively if someone is a regular uploader, then send me your address & I'll mail you a DVD.

I think that either in this thread or Ray's You Tube thread there was mention of a part missing episode (possibly the diving bell one?) being on You Tube. Will investigate further....

And/or David Buck's comment here missingepisodes.proboards.com/search/results?captcha_id=captcha_search&what_exact_phrase=diving+bell&who_only_made_by=0&display_as=0&search=Search Quote: Hi Chris - I have 1 print, IIRC it's incomplete & I'd have to get round to screening it again to find out who narrated it - I think the credits are missing though - In the opening titles it says "Riverbank Productions Ltd" - does that differentiate between Canadian or British version ? These used to crop up on ebay quite often on 16mm but again - might or might not have been UK versions I think the episode's about a diving bell, or possibly even a submarine

Does the BBC own the copyright to Jonny Morris's narration?

Does the BBC own the copyright to Jonny Morris's narration? Possibly not, IIRC Jonny Morris did his stuff at the request of the BBC for Riverbank Productions Ltd Sadly Dave Ellison recently passed away recently, I'm sure he could have confirmed this .

I have the 6 mentioned from the official VHS releases; would love to see all the other monochrome episodes - & if the 6 mentioned here are from a better source & transferred to DVD would happily buy those again too! Yes, I was trying to work out if those episodes Richard had found were of better quality than the VHS release too. I am interested to find out where they came from if they are. Hi John, The quality is about as good as you can get off old VHS tapes, the 6 head Sharp models give particularly good results. Unfortunately no joy regarding master dubs, I have contacted Channel 5 video who released the VHS tapes, but so far no answer.

Just quickly checked You Tube. Could only find part of Hammy leaves home in a TV compilation of the BW material.

Hi all - my print is complete, the closing titles have split off from the rest of the print . I did check it a while back and the credits are for the Canadian narrator; so not a johnny morris version.

OK I just wondered was the situation was rightswise.
