Where does the colour series fit into this, was it by the same company? I cannot remember if Johnny Morris or a (well known at the time, forget now) Canadian voiced it?

I grew up watching this when I was a young kid on the Isle Of Wight. If that Wikipedia link is correct it says 'Much of the filming was done on location at Wootton Creek on the Isle of Wight'. Wow, that's something I never knew about the IOW history.

Thanks. Although I can't imagine Paul Sutherland was not used originally just because he had a Canadian accent -I mean TV was swamped with American accents wasn't it? I think they just used Johnny Morris because he was thee man for humanising animals for story telling.

I really don't 'get' Tales of the Riverbank' or its status-and I don't think I'm the only one. The wiki entry doesn't help much.Could someone explain it all in fairly short words?

Yes i'd like to know excatly what episodes still survive and which ones if any don't . As far as those that are out on video or dvd they seem to be the same handful everytime.

Re:- Tales of the Riverbank, with Jonny Morris narration, as far as I remember I read somewhere on the web that the majority still exist, but are not held by the BBC as the program is owned by someone else. Hence the appearance of missing episodes on VHS and DVD.

Well spotted! That's 6 at least that aren't missing. It does make it sound more likely that quite a few survive and are being held "elsewhere" than the BBC as mentioned before. Alternatively, I wonder if any of these were returned from the cruise liner folks with the other Watch With Mother programs?

Just got hold of the 6 "missing" episodes, Vol 1 and 2 of Tales of the Riverbank on VHS off E bay. The videos are, interestingly made by Channel 5 Video Distribution Ltd, a Heron / Polygram Company. Does anyone know of any contacts who worked for this company who may have knowledge of further episodes previously released or archived still? Is this company anything to do with 5 formerly known as Channel 5 in the UK? I've no idea personally, but if so, does anyone know if they own the series now, and if so do they have archived material? (Also posted on Ray's You Tube Thread). Still looking for a decent 2nd hand VHS recorder to copy them to DVD.

Didn't Woolworths have something to do with Channel 5 Video?

Not sure, could be a lead, if so let's hope Woolworths winding up hasn't sent the trail cold again. Just done some further digging and, surprise suprise the videos are copyright Riverbank Productions. They are a Canadian Company but made the colour episodes in the UK as Hammy Time Productions. Have sent them the following email, it will probably come to nothing but is worth a try
Hi, I contribute to an on line forum that tries to recover lost episodes of UK TV series. According to our records, the original series of B/W Tales of the Riverbank with Johnny Morris is missing from the archives. However I have managed to source 6 episodes on VHS tapes released by Channel 5 Video c Riverbank Productions. Do you know. If there is any way that I can contact Riverbank Productions directly to see if they hold archive copies of the B/W series with Johnny Morris commentary? Best Regards, Richard Woods

Richard, you should be able to get one at a charity shop, hopefully with a little tag saying it's been checked for safety.Cash Converters might still sell them.Expect to pay £5.00 to £10. Reminds me that I once bought a DVD player with a disc already inserted-a disc of the grossest...but this hasn't got much to do with Tales of the Riverbank.I don't know though...
