I think what he ment was although the 1963-69 series were in black and white the sets and costumes were in colour.look at the rehearsal photos on macro polo and the war games.they look really colourful despite being in black and white.there are also colour photos of the cybermen on the steps in front of st.paul from the invasion(1968). I think that's what he meant too

I know I deserve a telling off for this, but is Macro Polo the tale of when Marco Polo met those terrors, the Macra?

I don't know why people can't just accept Paul's denials at face value... Presumably because it looked more like a denial that there'd be an announcement last weekend, than a denial the BBC are sitting on missing episodes again. It was reminiscient of Steve Roberts posts on the rtforum (or was it rec.arts.drwho) many years ago that tried to cast doubt on the NZ poster who swore up and down he'd seen The Lion very recently, when Steve knew the film was already en route to him by courier. If Paul wanted to make a clear denial, he'd simply say that nothing has been found. As it stands, what he posted actually gives me hope that part of Evil has been found. On the other hand, Seb has lied and plagarized in the past; DrWho Online has pulled these stunts before. And yet, I have more hope currently than on any occasion since The Lion appeared.

I've heard weird rumors online about Power of the Daleks, but this is the first thing I have heard about The Evil of the Daleks. Finding episodes from either story would be a real surprise.

Finding episodes from either story would be a real surprise. Before this goes too far - I don't know what's been found, if anything. I simply found Paul's denial being primarily based on the date, rather than anything being found or in the pipeline, odd. And for the first time in 13 years remind me of what was being said in 1999 when half the Restoraton Team danced around the whole issue for almost a week before the official announcement misdirecting. Though reading through Paul's later comments do seem very explicit - and Paul didn't say a word back in 1999. And yet there are rumours floating around. I don't know what to think.

I've heard rumors, but no proof to indicate a recovery.

If Paul says nothing has been found and its true - great, I believe him.
If Paul says nothing has been found and its just a smokescreen - I'll believe him anyway because its for a very good reason, and I've never heard him say anything that wasn't in the best interests of fandom.
Besides, you wouldn't announce what you got for Christmas before you'd actually opened your presents would you...?

Please let's not start heading in the direction of the Gallifrey Base thread.

I suggest that everybody stops trying to twist what Paul actually said into what they'd like it to mean. Further posts doing so will be deleted without warning. So, will interest in missing episodes wane..? Discuss.

I noticed on 'Goodbye Television Centre' that Danny Baker's comment about it having been a mistake to throw away all those tapes in the 60s and 70s elicited a spontaneous round of applause from the audience. Even allowing for the possibility that a lot of the audience were TV buffs, it did suggest that awareness of the gaps in the archives isn't entirely confined to the likes of us :-)

Danny Baker really should be on television more often.

So, will interest in missing episodes wane..? Discuss. No, because the new series has gotten a whole new generation interested in the history of the show. Steve Roberts once said: "when the new series started in 2005, it had a pronounced impact on the classic series sales, almost tripling the sales rate overnight!" That means there will be plenty of fans discussing missing episodes in decades to come.

So, will interest in missing episodes wane..? Discuss. That means there will be plenty of fans discussing missing episodes in decades to come. Though in decades to come, there will be few and fewer discoveries. When it's decades between discoveries rather than years, then the interest in the missing episodes (the original material) itself will wane. Besides, by then, some ingenious person will have figured out how to fully rebuild the lost episodes from telesnaps and motion-capture technology, with animation that looks as real as the original video.
