You are likely to recieve a lot of scepticism as you have posted 6 posts; all about your Dad's old films and your birthday happens to be on the same date that Doctor Who started. I'm not saying what you are saying is not true infact I truly hope that what you say is true and you may have something of importance. However, it is likely people won't believe until they 'see the goods' as it were; so be warned. All the best with the search.

Jon, I'm in Pukekohe which is about an hour away from you. Seems like there are a lot of suspicious people here. I should be around on Saturday if you feel like taking a ride - send me a message and we can arrange a time.. Will do. I've sent you a PM with my ph number etc. Jon

Seems like there are a lot of suspicious people here. Sadly, us Whovians are a very cautious folk. We've been burned, taunted, teased, and humiliated before by mean-spirited individuals. Although some of us are suspicious, you haven't outwardly hurt our feelings. You've so far just mentioned that you may have some tapes. It may end up that all you have are a few episodes we already have, or episodes from an era that isn't missing anything. The worst that can happen is we find out that there isn't anything in what remains of your collection. Best of luck! If there isn't anything in your collection then that's okay. Point is we get it checked out just to be sure.

Unless you're a wind up merchant the one where he met Ghengis Khan is missing from the archives....... Well, chances are that anything he had is gone, as I said, mum binned a lot of them... That is a pity. Even if the films he had were not lost episodes, several thousand dollars would really come in handy in this day and age. There really isn't anything that can be done now if they were thrown away. What's done is done.

It's a concern that I've had as well actually. It's difficult to know what to do about it. The fact that this forum exists is to some extent a decent enough counter balance. Simply because this forum is an excellent tools for assessing leads as everyone here (you'd think) has a fairly decent knowledge of missing material and could probably sniff a hoax a mile off. I think we need to be polite to anyone with a lead - however unlikely. The likelyhood of more missing WHO turning up has to be very, very, very slim and to be honest, sometimes hearsay and rumour is all we have to go on. At the end of the day, the majority of people replying on this thread said they were happy to see WHO on ebay and selling for a lot as it might make people rummage through their collections or jog some memories. Maybe this is happening now, maybe not.

I really think young people who get excited on any potential lead is the greatest cause of hoaxsters. I remember a story a while back where a friend had a second hand shop. Someone came in to sell him a diamond. He had a specialist come in. he examined the diamond, and told him what he could pay for it. But the guy clearly stated that once that diamond left his hand, it would no longer be real. The customer refused the offer. took it back and then decided to sell it. The guy refused to buy it as he knew it could have been switched. Im in sales. I had an appointment scheduled for a prospect. He then called to cancel his appointment and said he wasnt interested. Some people are insincere. Some are not interested Some have serious interest but are not in a position to do anything. Others are the people who I can really work with. If I let every potential lead that failed crushed me, Id be out of business so quickly. Instead, I understand the numbers game. I understand that it doesnt matter how many appointments I see or how many leads I get. I simply go through the procedure and sooner or later I find the diamond in the rough. The people who I really feel are the type of people that I can help..and those are the ones that keep me going Greed, selfishness, covetousness, naivity, those are the tools of hoaxsters. Love for others, caring, respect, cautious optimism, and the maturity, those are the tools that bring long term friendship and a safe heart. I am always willing to make a new friend who is sincere. I think its great that Jon, who I view as one of the most respected men in NZ, is willing to go down and meet billbell. Now that the hand of friendship has been held out, I really feel there is no more to say on that until that meeting comes to pass. I know its work, but I really think more info should be about Sierra Leone as that was where about 20 missing episodes were seen last, even if one or two survived..but I cant do it on my own. To paraphrase Doubting Thomas "Until I see the film cans or the contents destroyed Im not going to be convinced"

After seeing all the Loose cannon reconstructions including Marco Polo, and if it had to be a Hartnell episode I'd rather have an odd episode of The Myth Makers, The Massacre, The Savages or The Smugglers. Still interesting lead worth a look. I don't quite see the appeal of Marco Polo myself. And that’s if it had to be a Hartnell episode. Still interesting lead worth a look. However, being a bit of a pessimist about these things, I rather suspect that Jon will get to this guys house on Saturday and either no one will answer the door or a old lady will answer it and have no idea that he's talking about and slam the door in his face. That’s if the house is even there at all. I think the three main appeals for Marco Polo is that one; it has no surviving footage. Two, it is the first proper historical (I'm not truly sure if An Unearthly Child counts). And three, it is the earliest lost Who story.

We don't actually have anything to lose by being open and polite to people on this forum - and we have a lot to gain. Richard
