I contacted him this morning. Waiting for a reply. I asked very general questions and tried to sound mildly interested in the episode on offer, and asked very generally about other items in the collection. Didn't exclusively talk about Dr Who, or even mention the idea of anything being missing -- just generic questions really.

Nice to see prints still showing up - I just contacted him just in case.

Nice to see prints still showing up - I just contacted him just in case. It's so funny because I was literally thinking "Why the hell am I doing this? It's not like I'm going to scroll down this list and see an episode of Doctor Who for offer on 16mm. Hmm...well...only seven more pages to search through." And it was literally the first entry on the next page of results!

So what does 16/4TU/23217 tell us?

The trailer sounds interesting, is this on either of the other prints of this episode ?

I think by the trailer, the seller simply means the "Next Episode: Guests Of Madame Guillotine" caption as illustrated by the frames.

Even if it is an episode already known to exist, it's still heartening.

So what does 16/4TU/23217 tell us? It just indicates that it's a 16mm telerecording made from BBC project code 23217, which refers to The Land of Fear.

The big question is: What else is in the collection and who did the seller purchase it from?

Okay, that's two questions.

I know that '4T' refers to the source being 405-line VT, but what does the 'U' stand for? I take it also that there's no way to determine from the available information whether this is a stored-field print?

I've just compared it to the print I have -- identical handwriting which means that it's a suppressed field copy (i.e. from the same neg). ... I'm also suspicious that this print is a dupe - but it's hard to tell for sure...
Don't flood the poor guy with questions, I'm told on good authority that he does not have any other dr. Who prints...

If this turns out to be genuine, nice to know that Doctor Who film prints are still turning up.
I'm relatively new here - how often do Who prints turn up on eBay?
