so we are a bit further down the line with the missing nuclear Slade promo. Some questions remain.....
when exactly was it shown?
was it made by the BBC or Slades management/record label?
If it was an insert (presumably so) would the film given to the BBC have been the only copy or would there be another copy kept, if so where could it be? (apart from with Noddy)

I had a chat with Don Powell last night over in Antwerp. He said he didn't have any recollection of filming in a nuclear power plant. He did remember filming in a gas works.

Nice one. From the horses mouth. I think what we have here is an urban myth that is being perpetuated by the people in this area AND Oldbury power station management. It would seem that there is no evidence this actually happened and seems to have been confused with the filming at a gas works

Bear in mind Don had that car crash which wiped a lot of his memory.

Bear in mind Don had that car crash which wiped a lot of his memory. Don suffers from short term memory loss, he can remember most things that happened in his life/career, He could be talking to you one minute and then can't remember what you were talking about the next. Don's book based on his famous diaries he has kept should be published and released late next year.

Received an email this morning regarding Slade at Oldbury:
"Whist I regret that I cannot remember the date, (I suspect it was about +/- 1973) and during the time I was the Maintenance Manager at Oldbury, the BBC filmed the Slade Group together with Pans People for a “Top of the Pops” programme, which was broadcast some 3 weeks after the event. It arose following a BBC cocktail party in London on a Friday at which the Gas Board were being congratulated for providing their facilities, the then CEGB attendees offered the facilities of Oldbury. I received a phone call the following Saturday morning from the then Station Manager Jim Exley that we had to accommodate the group on the following Tuesday.
Whilst the filming took place the whole day (with the plant operating) in various locations, including the floor over the reactor, as I recall, a substantial part of the TOP clip broadcast, (3 or 4 minutes) showed the group riding on a trolley up and down a corridor in the fuel building rather than in other places."

Promo's were shown on 16th,23rd Nov 72 and again 7th Dec. 16th Nov was the promo shot at the Rainbow by Opsis Films and is in the TOTP Archive (in B&W) www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yAi-Y7HnDMI would say the promo filmed at Oldbury would have been tx'd on 23rd seems strange they would have the same promo two weeks in a row (only happens with a No1) Dave Kemp remembers seeing the promo he has a great website: www.davekempandslade.com/top-of-the-pops.html
