I'm glad someone is actually referring to it as the Cinema advert that it is, and not the TV Commercial as You-Tube say. Also (and I know some people will probably say, not him again!), with the quality of it and the audio saying 'scape' rather than 'escape', it most likely originates from the 35mm print of it that Gordon Hendry has in his collection. I first had this transferred to tape in the late 1980's by a friend in BBC Enterprises' engineering & Ops dept. I'm quite suprised it took rather so long to get on to something like you-tube. He has several of the Zoom lolly Cinema ads along with Sugar smacks TV ones. Right I'm now getting back in my box...lol. Dxx

yes thats the one one of the few people to play dr who, even if it is for a few seconds, who is unidentified The Doctor is played by Gerry Grant in the advert. Troughton was going to appear, on the BBC's stipulation that he didn't actually speak, but his stated fee was too high, so Lintas (the advertising agency used by Walls for the campaign) went for a different actor.

I'm glad someone is actually referring to it as the Cinema advert that it is, and not the TV Commercial as You-Tube say. Although the advert may have eventually ended up being shown at the cinema, it was originally made as a television advert - and restricted in licence to 275 transmissions across the commercial network starting in June 1967. The YouTube one has been lifted directly from 30 Years in the TARDIS and indeed comes from Gordon. It's actually a few seconds longer than the one seen on television and since 1993, Gordon has reinserted a tiny edit he made in his copy, which caused the "scape" sound jump. The advert, plus a very full PDF on the Walls promotion will be appearing on the new Tomb of the Cybermen DVD that will make up part of the Revisitations 3 boxset, which includes all sorts of promotional material, advert storyboards, proofs etc, along with the cards and the album.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing the Tomb DVD as I didn't buy the first version (I held out for a fully Vidired version and made do with my '90s VHS release!). Very glad to hear the advert is included in this release as I love to see anything of this kind as extras (i'd love to see a Network DVD release of TV commercials purely and simply, in fact - but that's another topic for another day!)

I must confess im not a fan of these DVD re-releases. It seems a bit George Lucas to me. Not forgetting that they will be released on Blu Ray in a few years time with some kind of digital upscaling done on them. I wont be purchasing them again!

David, mate- you should be a moderator !! What's this I hear about classic who on Bluray?? I've already spent a small fortune getting it all on DVD (not to mention the videos!!) That's just not fair! What happens when (and it probably already has) Bluray becomes obsolete? Great to see these adverts are finally making it to DVD, I was wondering where and when they would pop up. I'm not that impressed with the "Revisitations" myself, Tomb- Yes I can see the point, others well.... Back to the Bluray thing since the new series has been made in HD I've only bought it in HD (including the upscaled edition of The Next Doctor) it makes more sense as I have the technology at my disposal which already upscales (or at least attempts too lol) automatically anything in SD. Most if not all BD players are suitable for use with CD's DVD's etc. So what would be the point? But really I think I may have already covered that lol.

Correct Richard. I was simply making use of my crystal ball rather than referring to any announcement that the BBC have made. That said though, if I were a gambling man I would happily put money on it coming to pass in the next few years!

wow good info there, Gerry Grant, at least I can see what he looks like now. This whole thing has reminded me of a comedy sketch, possibly from Naked Video early mid 80s about 2 cavemen complaining about the fact that nothing happens whilst in the background a Police box appears and a Tom Baker+Romana Lookalike wander about, then get back into the tadris which dissapears unoticed by the cavemen, vague childhood memories so it may be any number of comedy shows, but probably BBC
