I have never been able to see what was so marvellous about people destroying the symbols (no pun intended, even though it's a different spelling) and insulting the people that contributed to their success in life. Even as a Sixties geek, I think things like that represented the very worst apects of the decade. A complete demonstration of how to be a spoiled brat!
And yes, I did like the Who - they did some really good stuff. But that stage act was offensive to music lovers everywhere.
Colin.

Indeed. There is the Dawn-Tie A Yellow Ribbon,David Cassidy-Daydreamer,The Who-5:15,and 30sec b/w intro seen on YouTube recently seen for the 500th edition.I would love to see The Sweet - Ballroom Blitz performance from the 500th personally. Also big fan of Cozy Powell's work as well, great to see there.Am left wondering when-and how long Mr.Saville's cigar smoked "The Kids Are Alright" DVD material has been discussed many a time previously. Also,in regards as to what The Who management actually holds for this performance, and in what form?I would hope, and think here that there is a complete edition in existence minus the PVL copy of course.Just a matter of time am hoping till we all hear the end of that one there.Again, fingers crossed!! Cheers,Lance.

you would think that some one would have thought the 500th edition was significant enough of an event to keep a copy in the archives

I think a copy was kept. It's either been lost by the BBC or pinched.
Only my personal opinion.

I think it's a well known fact I am trying to get in touch with an archive that may have a copy in broadcast quality (not the BBC). Readers may deduce WHO that is. Anyway, I have had no confirmation of whether they have any of it or all of it, as of yet. I will keep you informed of any progress.

PVL only has about a third of the 500th, in b/w. The Who performance is included.

I've done a bit of research into the 500th and not got very far. People i've contacted regarding The Who's copy have not replied. Hopefully Ray, you'll have more luck.
There was a story i was following up that the BBC did hold a copy of the 500th that was loaned to The Who's Management at some point. This was not a copy but the original print. This however seems to have gone missing!. (This story is unsubstanciated by the way).
There is the PVL which as John said is incomplete.
There is another copy floating around which i am trying to track down. The Who's 5:15 from it is on youtube but is several generations down the line and no one i've contacted so far knows the original source.
