A couple of the 1969 shows I think were available on video on the polygram label around 1992. This may have also been shown as part of the TV Heaven series also shown around that time on CH4 ?

Are we talking about the ATV series 'This is Tom Jones'? A compilation was shown as part of ATV Night on BBC2 in 1994.

Jimi Hendrix et al featured.
Thank you very much for your helpful replies.

I errr "found" some 1969 eps on colour tape that were with the UCLA library that were listed in the decade old Kal guide as being wiped.
I actually contacted Polygram via e-mail to tell them of this "discovery" and they very efficiently and courteously replied that they had the editions referred to as they had turned up on pristine PAL on the catalouging of the the ATV quads.
Nice to know etc...

Tom Jones' company bought back all his ATV shows during 2004.

Oh, by the way, none of the special guests were featured on the This Is Tom Jones videos released by ITC, though a few (Little Richard, Sammy Davis Jr, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Cocker) were shown on ATV Night - I love the performance of 'Sunny' with Ella Fitzgerald - though this was in b&w for some reason.

Anyone know how many of the Tom Jones shows exist now then? The Kal listing suggests the archive is very patchy at best. If Jones bought his shows back, does this mean he has broadcast copies of the masters and the rights to them or is it just a case of him buying copies for his own personal use?

If he's bought the rights, that's good news. I can't imagine that he's splashed out a lot of money to let them gather dust.

I screened a selection of the best bits of This Is Tom Jones at the NFT in December 2000. I'm not sure who owns the UK rights, but Carlton certainly have all the tapes the NFTVA transfered, and of course we have copies at the NFTVA. I viewed all of the tapes to identify them, and there are no appearances by Hendrix. The collection isn't complete, but there must be about 20 at least. The early ones are the best - better guests, and not so much dire American 'comedy'.
