The audio episodes that I've got (I think these are the only ones but id love to be proved wrong) are The Nightmare Gas, Seven Surpants and episodes 2-4 of The Eye of Ra. The Quality for Seven Serpants is awful, and episode 2 of the nightmare gas is far worse than the rest of that story.

I think it's the same audio's that are doing the rounds, as the quality on one of them is terrible.
In fact, so terrible that even Network DVD refused to have them as extras on the DVD!

Hello...way back in 1982 I wrote to Thames TV to ask them what AOW they still had in their archives and which countries they sold AOW to. They wrote back with a list of all 3rd series episodes which they held. From what I remember they stated that they had sold the series to Canada, Malta, Yugoslavia and I think the Carribean (not sure if it was a particular island). I suppose there may still be a glimmer of a chance that the tapes/filmsof series1 and 2 may still be in existance there? The Tomorrow People was well distributed by Thames....I used to have TP videos from Oz...mainly copies from grainy film prints in the 80s so could there still be film prints of AOW still in existance in those countries? (I know Yugoslavia is now split into about 7 countries). Prob long shot..as other researchers may have checked whilst looking for other stuff...

Thanks John. Very interesting to know what the state of play was in '82. Predictable though, I suppose, that the earlier episodes had been disposed of much earlier. I wonder if the Seven Serpents story was still around in '75 for the production team and Russell Hunter to refer to when reprising his Mr.Stabs role for Shadows?

'Seven serpents' all episodes but think the reprise on one cuts in late.
'Nightmare Gas' all but recorded on low batteries so the speed varies. This is much better quality than 'Serpents'. Andrew Pixley traced a nice set of what appears to be colour slides of this story for the DVD release.
'Eye of Ra' episodes 2 and 3 only. I have no idea what all the bank vault raid part is about. But can fairly clearly recall a scene where Tony Selby looks shocked as the camera zooms to a minature chalk tarot on the floor of a white room. Also the chess board bit which was like a recording studio.
If you do a search on YouTube for 'Ace of Wands series 2 title reconstruction' theres a mock up of series 2 credits. It needs tweaking but gives you an idea what it was like.

I think the issue of them being audios was quoted. Actually the audios would need extensive speed correction and 'Serpents' is very poor indeed.

Speed correction is very simple to do and i've done it myself effectively.

The thing is which series or episodes were sold abroad is there any documentation?

That is the question! It doesnt sound like the documentation survives, judging from this thread, to conclusively indicate one way or the other :/
There may be overseas television listings that could give some indications.

Surely all this should be checked out at some point?

Was it sold around Europe, Australia or Africa does anyone know? Excellent question; I've been asking for two years if anyone's seen it in Australia, since encountering someone who swears blind she saw it here on free to air in the seventies (and Freewheelers), despite no listing or any other viewer's memories. From what I remember they stated that they had sold the series to Canada, Malta, Yugoslavia and I think the Carribean (not sure if it was a particular island). The Tomorrow People was well distributed by Thames....I used to have TP videos from Oz...mainly copies from grainy film prints in the 80s so could there still be film prints of AOW still in existance in those countries? Seven (Australia) bought The Tomorrow People in 1976, and played it annually; new season then older episodes, sometimes in reverse story order ... it was not obscure, and their repeats continued through the eighties with occasional hiatus, and once in the nineties. In the early eighties they persisted in repeating the same Speedy Gonzales cartoon before it, an early morning reminder of how much they cared.

The thing is which series or episodes were sold abroad is there any documentation? We had this in New Zealand around '75 or '76 but we only saw the Series 3 episodes. Apparently the earlier ones had been wiped by this stage...

When I was researching my worldwide Doctor Who broadcasts guide, BroaDWcast - www.broadwcast.org - I also noted what other "lost" cult programmes screened around the world, and I don't think I ever saw any listings for Ace of Wands anywhere. There were also no foreign listings for Doomwatch or any of the non Diana Rigg episodes of The Avengers. for instance. Jon Preddle

Australia got Rigg Avengers and on (March 1966, ABC) and series two Doomwatch in 1972. Assuming that's what you meant. Only received Wiped! yesterday, pleased to see we were both name checked. Curious about Richard's sources.
