Hi There, this is my first post i wanna help you guys track down missing episodes the problem is i dont know where to start any pointers? Film collectors fairs imho. absoloutly the best place, new stuff turns up a lot of the time but be aware that a large proportion is the same stuff being re-sold, have a look for your local film dealer, they are often not on the internet, and they will be at the fairs. Get names and contacts, they usually keep an eye out for you and introduce you to other collectors who may be able to help.

Darren Gregory OBE Known as the "Blackpool Hoaxer" has claimed on more than one occasion to have missing episodes of Dr Who (or to know someone who has missing episodes, or to have a lead about someone who knows where a missing episode...)

I've never understood the addiction to hoaxing, power, money, a feeling of superiority or perhaps he really thinks he has them? it's odd that it's the same hoax over and over again

I've always seen hoaxing as the ultimate exercise in pointlessness, myself...

Actually, whatever you do, DO NOT sidle up to them and say "I'm looking for missing Dr Who episodes - have you got any?". Be interested in anything they have. Don't even just talk about tv shows. Don't wear a Dr Who scarf, badge, t-shirt, underpants, whatever. If they think for a minute that you are just there to try and find Dr Who episodes, they'll run a mile - you have to appear to be a film collector first and foremost. To be honest, my advice would probably be "leave it to the more experienced people", but that's probably a bit too cynical. Oh, and if you do find something or turn up a lead, DO NOT POST ON THE INTERNET OR TELL ANYONE! Contact someone at the BBC (Andrew Martin's your man) or the BFI (Dick Fiddy), or Kaleidoscope (Chris Perry). People here can point you in their direction if you need help! Good hunting!

Please don't forget that there are lots of other missing programmes besides Dr Who. Many of these were telerecorded and so film prints may be around somewhere - unloved and unrecognised.

To be honest, my advice would probably be "leave it to the more experienced people", but that's probably a bit too cynical. That is FAR from cynical - it's the truth! Hunting for lost episodes should be left in the hands of experienced people who have been doing this for a long time. We really don't need any more amateurs out there mucking things up. I'd say is an amateur REALLY wants to help search for lost material, then they should team up with one of the professional episode hunters and not try doing in on their own. Learn how to do it the right way. Bad enough film collectors in the UK,Australia and NZ have to deal with being bothered by bungling amateurs looking for lost Doctor Who!

To be fair, some amateur might come up with a lead that the experienced people may never get to hear about unless the amateur does some digging around. Fair enough, if theres some negotiating to be done then get the RT involved.
