I reckon New Zealand still holds some episodes that are yet to be unearthed...just a 'gut' feeling if thats of any consolation. I maybe totally wrong but NZ is a small country and there are plenty of pack-rats and hoarders around so who knows. I knew of an old bloke who had a massive 16mm film collection that he was selling off slowly. This was back around 1998/99 and I had no idea that there were missing Dr Who episodes back then. Only because of the net I found this out! I did buy some films off him which I still have, unfortunately he has long since died and I have no idea what happened to his films, only hope that they went to another collector or the Film Archives here in Wellington. Maybe one day I'll unearth a missing DW episode in amongst my 60 odd films by magic! Wishful thinking.....

I reckon New Zealand still holds some episodes that are yet to be unearthed... I would love to think that too, it just depends on how lucky we are with the closure of Harriett Street (the only location the films were stored at after broadcast) and if anyone managed to intercept any of the films before being junked. Everyone hopes for a repeat of The Lion but who knows; the closure of TVNZ's largest (?) film store would've attracted a few film collectors I'm sure.

That "Marco Polo" lead we had many many months ago that Jon followed up on worries me in that regard. But I hope that New Zealand has more to offer as well. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Always the optimist, Jack. I do like that about you. Yes, I forgot to mention that David's amazing research into The Macra Terror is another New Zealand lead with actual "substance" to it. Fingers crossed there as well. It seems to be a similar story between New Zealand and the UK ... a number of episodes put on to the skip and collectors getting their hands on them. How many more are out there? How many were destroyed? Only time will tell.

And Australia; those three episodes from David Gee likely came from a skip grab.

The holy grail would be the episodes themselves, not the location, surely... 60% of the time we find missing episodes every time...

It’s a great story Paul and I am glad it’s finally been written down for people to digest; although it’s a pity it’s swamped amongst other stuff on this thread. It needs its own separate thread really ;-) I recall that morning very well and a slight hangover was somewhat forgotten with the arrival of the tape. Your hesitation on opening it was met by a series of impatient expletives from myself, if you remember!? Heh heh I think the VHS tape that we received that morning was one of your own that you had sent him earlier and asked him to put the episode in question after a copy of ‘The War Machines’. After fast forwarding to the end of this story we were confronted by another Troughton sequence that looked quite ‘familiar’.It certainly was familier! It was the hoax ‘Web Of Fear’ part 2 title sequence that I myself had put together a couple of years earlier. A brief moment of horror crept over me when I thought ‘Oh Bollocks’ and realised we could possibly have been stung by something of my own making! Thankfully after the Web Of Fear 2 titles had fizzled out, another Troughton sequence started and we knew instantly that this was the real deal. An awesome moment and something we had been working towards for a few years. The pinnacle of being a Dr Who fan happened that morning, we were watching a missing episode. The web of intrigue that Paul mentions was certainly in the air which also led us on a trip to Watford Way in London a month or so prior to the Faceless Ones episode turning up. We had just had the TellyCon flyers printed which bore the statement ‘The screening of a previously missing Dr Who Episode’ and myself, Steve Broster and Mike Smallman had handed the flyers out at the Fitzroy Tavern meeting to a few raised eyebrows from certain quarters the previous week. The episode in question the flyer proposed wasn’t ‘Dinosaurs 1’ as far as was aware but rather the ‘Tenth Planet’ episode 4. This is why Paul and I found ourselves on Watford Way, outside the door of the home of ‘Roger Barrett’. Roger wasn’t in of course but the woman who answered the door told us that ‘Roger’ was out on an OB shoot. I always found that strange that she mentioned ‘Roger’ by name which concludes that she must have been on the act too! I think this was the end of the Tenth Planet 4 trail and the arrival of the Faceless Ones episode certainly saved us from having egg on our face. The TellyCon flyer was honoured ;D As a little footnote, about a decade later I was driving down to Paul’s house in Birmingham with a car boot full of film – including some nitrate stock from the late 20’s! I arrived at Paul's and also present were Peter Crocker and Andrew Beech. As I unpacked the film in front of them I read out some of the names on the labels. The guys were astonished and thought I was taking the piss when I mentioned Roger Delgado, Barry Letts .. Fraser Hines..nothing Dr Who of course, but it turned out to be a missing 1960's TV series; Long Way Home

I think for a while that was the only copy in fandom because it took ages to leak from the BBC (unlike Evil 2!) At any rate it had high video-swapping potential I remember. And I remember JJB showing that Spoof Web 2 start in a side room just after the showing of Faceless 3, I was in a mood to believe anything and was totally fooled!!!!

I still have the tape somewhere. Yes, indeed. The nitrate film I still have as it is against the law to transport it in a motor vehicle without special measures. I keep it in the shed! Paul

Interesting tales very well told, Mr Vanezis!
I don't know Richard Molesworth at all, but I nonetheless enjoyed your rather impish references to his youth at the time!

Been over two years since this thread was active and a lot has happened since. My take at the present time? I'm a bit uncertain regarding Season 4: I think its highly unlikely we'll see much more of it. Sad I know, especially as Macra Terror, Power of the Daleks and The Underwater Menace are among those I want recovered.
... But considering Abominable Snowmen and Wheel in Space was (I think?) originally with Web of Fear and Enemy of the World (someone will have to clarify this properly but i'm sure they were all together at one point) then it stands to reason tracking them down is far more likely than other missing episodes... But Fury from the Deep? Again i'm not sure. I highly believe any further announcements or finds will relate to Abominable/Wheel. Fine with me, Abominable is great and to say Wheel is under-rated is a huge understatement.
