I think if history has taught us anything in this regard, it's expect the unexpected! I believe Marco Polo is technically the most likely, due to the largest number of overseas sales, but I'm expecting to be corrected!! Wouldn't it just be loveley if The Celestial Toymaker 1,2 and 3 turned up as a fitting tribute to the great Michael Gough, whose death was announced today Tim

If I had any say in it, The Celestial Toymaker is not among the episodes I'd choose...

Well quite! It was more a crowbar-ing in off the sad passing of Michael Gough. I believe episode 4 was picked randomly out of a pile ready for destruction by a TV station technician down under, so the rest of that batch is gone BUT we already have a taste of that story.
I think my preference would be anything from a Season 4 Troughton, but alas that's just what I'd like, not the most likeley.

Obviously we can't pick and choose which odd episodes turn up but i'd much prefer that in future they were ones which completed a story (e.g. Ice Warriors 2, 3, Invasion 1, 4 or Moonbase 1, 3). I know it's nice to have odd examples of otherwise missing stories - but totally frustrating too as you just want to see the whole thing.
Whether or not those will be the ones that turn up is anyone's guess. There is no story or episode (other than probably The Feast Of Steven) that can be ruled out as conclusively not existing somewhere though. Some can be regarded as more likely to survive than others maybe (due to e.g. number of copies circulated originally) but that's all.

According to Richard Molesworth in 'Wiped' the prints of various episodes that were liberated by BBC employees were viewing copies of prints in the BBC archives(and were undocumented). When the 'original' prints were destroyed they became the surviving prints for these episodes. So in theory any episode could have a duplicate print out there. There may have been more copies of masterplan struck than of most stories, as it was a technically complicated storyline. In addition the novelty of Feast of Steven, might have encouraged someone to collect it. Conjecture of course, but the fact that 3 episodes of DMP survive of a serial never sold abroad(prints sent to Australia but not purchased), might indicate that there were several prints.

just imagine the least likely one, I did just before the tomb of the cybermen and it turned up Were you disappointed when you finally got to watch it? i.e. was it an anticlimax? I've read a few times that people were terribly disappointed by it, after years of speculation about how good it was! (assuming you hadn't you seen it first time round?) I thought it was just fine by the way and it made my month!! Day of Armageddon completely and utterly surpassed any expectations I had of it. Would love to see some more of that story. Tim

Tim I went to the Tombwatch event and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the story on VHS and now have it on DVD. Personally I think it's first rate. It's amazing what they did in the 60s with no budget.

Tim For me, what is essential to any production is a very good story and script. If you don't have those two things, then all the special effects and other showy things aren't going to help much. As a story and script, Tomb of the Cybermen is very good. I can live without all the fancy special effects and CGI as long as the story is worth watching.

With the lack of episodes being recovered over the years, I'd be happy if any Hartnell or Troughton story turned up complete. Since I'm desperate for any type of episode being found, Mission to the Unknown would be welcome even though none of the regular cast appears.
