What is the position over re-colourising this much loved Pertwee story. Presume the chroma dot information can restore this to colour sufficiently for a colour copy to be released on DVD.
Can a similarprocedure be applied to Invasion (the first episode of Invasion of the Dinosaurs) to restore this to colour?

Unfortunately the print of The Mind of Evil episode 1 has had the chroma dots filtered out. It is the only B&W Pertwee episode without chroma dots.
What this means for the restoration of the story is anyone's guess. In a best-case scenario, the rest of the story would be colour-recovered and episode 1 would be manually colourised. But that is expensive.

That's not Mind Of Evil they're talking about there but Ambassadors Of Death. MOE's status is up in the air at the moment.

It's no secret that the RT tried CR on MOE but got mixed results. I don't know if there have been any improvements since then - but I'm sure that people have been trying. However the www is such a rumour mill - remember Mugabe "hoarding" missing episodes of Dr Who - that I'd really want to hear, officially, from Dan Hall or Steve Roberts before giving too much credence to anything. It's a pity that the RT website isn't updated any more as I really enjoyed the articles about new releases:(

Sorry, I've done it again. I seem to have a mental block when it comes to separating MoE and AoD. I meant Ambassadors. Will have to delete tweet.
Work is going on with Mind of Evil but no release in 2011.

Mind of Evil will be a tricky one. Perhaps we'll get something similar to the 2003 Ambassadors of Death VHS release.
Invasion of the Dinosaurs looks a lot more positive. Not only have they got a 16mm film print of episode one that certainly contains something of the required colour sub-carrier, but they've also got a copy of the original film sequences (prior to telecine). Okay, the film sequences are only monochrome, but you'd have thought that the results of combining them with the recovered chroma signal could be rather nice.
What will be really interesting is what they've done with the out-of-phase film inserts in Ambassadors of Death. Will they perhaps have fallen back on restoring raw sections of stable NTSC material rather than overlay chroma onto out-of-phase film?

I don't understand why people keep speculating that some episodes may only be released in B/W! It will happen - it's obvious. Overall, MOE has a decent amount of colour, which would extremely help restoration if a full result couldn't be extracted. The process is also being improved all the time. Part 1 can be colourised like POTD 3 when the exchange rate is a bit better. It will probably delay the release a bit, and I expect it may well be one of the last to come out, but there is no way they'd just leave bits in B/W, when they are so close! As for Invasion, the film would have to be cropped and distorted in order to fit the colour signal, which would probably not be worth it.

As they say "Short But Sweet"!! Great work there, however the poster missed about 3 seconds of the recolourized footage on the presented material. If you watch closely, can notice the abrupt jump to where Jo makes the "Dracula's Castle"comment. I have seen the released photos of the MOE colourization attempts. Here is one of the released photos for the Mind Of Evil Recolourization Project posted online of late.As is mentioned here on this forum posting by hypocaust. This photo was posted by Steve Roberts under a Mind Of Evil DVD Release thread on Roobarbs DVD Forum (have to be a member to view the forum apparently). This was posted in 2009,and as I recall showed some of the early work-in-progress here: gallifreyanembassy.org/portal/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=28437Hoping this has been of some assistance here. Thanks as well Simon for posting that great Fan Recolourization clip! Cheers,Lance.
