I had a quick look around, and was able to find a facebook discussion on the Web Of Fear Rumors: www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=5336406018&topic=3220I do not remember any other publications around this occurrence. A very interesting question however. Might anyone else know of any official publications of this occurrence? Cheers, Lance.

To be fair, I have a suspicion that this could have been an example of darren gregory finding some fans who werent hip to his nonsense. I cant prove that but it does have the hallmarks of his tedious shenanigans.

Am I right in thinking the Darren gregory chap and the guy in the 1993 Planet of the daleks preamble, is Anthony Goodman?

No, Darren Gregory is the real name of a very notorious hoaxer who lives in the Blackpool/Preston area. In the 1980s/90s, he would often advertise in Loot about the episodes he possessed and his stories have always wasted people's time.

I've said it before, but he seems to have problems, he may actually believe that he has the missing episodes.

Not for the 3 and a half years I was on the editorial team of Loot he didn't!

How's the Progress in Africa going? I think I probably check in every week or so at least, but the discussion seems to be about hoaxers all the time. I've got all my extremities crossed (lol) hoping something might turn up. As there's only 20 odd serials left on the "to be released" list (and I've already got most of it on VHS) it would be nice to get something I haven't seen already. I can still remember my anticipation for "The Lion" to come out on video back in 99 and watching "Day of Armageddon" for the first time. I think were about due for another discovery.

Sorry if this sounds a little provocative – it’s not meant that way – but is there any reason why we can’t be apprised of what’s been found so far, if anything? All we’ve been told is that a bunch of black and white Joe 90 episodes were discovered, which proves that old 60s TV was ‘out there’, albeit not lost material.
Would it really be too much for someone to say: “We’ve checked country X and nothing was discovered.” Even that might help slake our thirst for news.

Funnily enough, it looks like your wish may be about to be granted, at least as far as one historic recovery is concerned. But it's not Doctor Who I'm afraid. Any guesses who the "eccentric band of collectors" are? www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/dec/01/arthur-c-clarke-russians-moon

To be fair, I expect an extremely interesting article or a few chapters in a book could be published about the African search. Best to just sit tight until then and not agonise excessively as it wont really help anyone! If and when anything comes back to the archives I am sure we will get a blow by blow account of every detail

Much as I wish there was anything else to add, I'm afraid there isn't.
Pretty much everything in most of the places we looked had been destroyed by the end of the 1980's. One or two things survived, 'The Sky at Night' in error, and its a miracle we got it back. I do hope people are going to tune in this Sunday evening.

Paul Does the extended repeat on bbc4 on Thursday of Sky At night feature any more of the recovered 1963 ep than this Sunday shows?

Out of interest Paul, are there many archives left in Africa to search now this late in the game?
