I've come across this clip on youtube of David Cassidy singing 'Daydreamer'. The poster says it's an official promo for the single. If memory serves, i remember seeing David singing this on totp having just arrived in the UK and singing 'live' at an airport (Heathrow?). Now, the clip is poor quality and looks like it has been recorded using a camcorder of something similar, but there are some 'ladders' and other objects that could be at an airport. Could this be from totp? and the 500th? Anyone have any further info on this as my memory is not what it used to be www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q51ZqOxGsQ

Some of the youtube users seem fairly confident it is from the 500th TOTP. It appears the clip made it all the way over to Australia. You have to wonder if other clips might survive this way ?

The story on youtube is that David landed at the airport and did his bit of filming there, rather than leave airside, because they couldn't guarantee his security. I'll do some more web research.
I don't for one minute think it's camcorder footage though.

From Poptastic:-
""TOP OF THE POPS 500th Edition 04/10/73 (BBC1 7pm - 8pm) (Full edition exists) ® (PVL) The Osmonds and David Cassidy, flown in specially and performing his hit on the tarmac at Heathrow Airport. Introduced by Jimmy Savile, Tony Blackburn, Noel Edmunds & Kenny Everett Intro << You tube clip CCS - Whole lotta love (Studio) Osmonds - Let me in (Insert exists only) Bryan Ferry - A hard rain’s gonna fall (Studio) Cliff Richard - Take me high (Studio) David Bowie - The laughing gnome (Promo) Dawn - Say, has anyone seen my sweey gypsy rose (Studio) Jackson Five - Skywriter (Promo) Lynsey De Paul - Won’t somebody dance with me (Studio) Isley Brothers - That lady (Disc) Sweet - Ballroom blitz (Studio) >> David Cassidy interview with Tony Blackburn >> slade interview from USA (on it’s slade) David Cassidy - The puppy song (Studio) Dawn feat Tony Orlando - Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree (Studio) Tremeloes - Silence is golden (Studio) Simon Park Orchestra - Eye level (Studio) David Cassidy - Daydreamer (Promo film) Who - 5:15 (Studio)""
Dave Kemp from davekempandslade remembers Cassidy performing Daydreamer on the tarmac.
From http://www.davidcassidyfansite.com:-
""Likewise the BBC couldn't guarantee his security in the Top of the Pops studio, so he'd step out of his private jet at Heathrow, perform his song on the tarmac, then turn back for LA. ""
I would think it VERY likely this is from the 500th edition.

looks to me like someone has filmed this off of a screen That's what i meant to say. It appears that it has been recordered using a camcorder pointed at a tv. If this is from the 500th totp, then that could be another copy that may exist, this time in Austrailia.

Well, there are bits of the 500th here and there, as we know, including PVL, at the BBC and on youtube.
I'll try and contact the poster....

Would be nice to see the 500th TOTP. ;D
David was a regular on Hollands 'Toppop' and performed this number in the studio.
18th September 1972: How Can I Be Sure This was filmed in a field with him standing in front of huge polystyrene letters spelling out T-O-P-P-O-P.
8th January 1973: Rock My Baby (Schiphol)
7th May 1973: I'm a Clown (Studio)
10th December 1973: Daydreamer (Studio)
10th June 1974: If I Didn't Care (Studio)
1975? I Write This Song (Studio)

No it's not the same as the one from the christmas edition which has David just walking around in a garden setting (can't remember the garden name at the moment. )(Kew?) www.youtube.com/watch?v=igs54heetSI

The poster of the original clip replied to me and informed me that he ""deleted the video off (his) DVR RW as soon as uploaded to YouTube."" The clip obviously came from this Australia programme:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_(TV_program)This show over the years has shown a lot of rare music promos (Ding Dong, by George Harrison and Stop and Smell the Roses by Ringo are two that had little to no airplay over here). Perhaps if anyone has any good contacts at ABC 1 in Australia they could let me know, with e-mail address....

I am very very grateful to my Oz contact Troy Walters (the man who tracks down lost Countdowns.... 1970scountdown.atspace.com/updates.html ) for some additional information about the 'Daydreamer' clip. The David Cassidy Daydreamer clip was featured originally on an early 70s short 10 minute daily music show on ABC called GTK (Get To Know). That program usually featured a local studio act, an international music video or TV show performance and an interview. GTK may have used some TOTP clips, as well as US shows like Soul Train and American Bandstand. Now in regards of the poor quality, GTK was only stored on B&W kinescope 16mm films hence poor quality, plus usually when Australia got copies of clips from overseas TV shows back in the day they were in 16mm B&W or colour kinescope film, so the clip may be a kinescope or a kinescope copy.

That's some great research Ray, thanks It would seem then that this is probably an isolated clip taken from the 500th with the original long gone. But it does beg the question.... does this programme contain any more isolated totp clips?

I am 99% the answer is no, no other clips.
IF I find anything from ANY TOTPs or ANYTHING else, I will let you all know on here as soon as I can, assuredly.
