BTW if a thread is deleted there's usually a good reason and starting another to continue the discussion isn't very helpful.

but then is it a very good idea to start a thread promising news then not delivering? personally i think its always best to keep quiet about something until it can actually be released

Theres probably good reasons. If we dont know anything for sure, theres nothing really to complain about! Its like winning a fiver on deal or no deal, the contestant hasnt actually lost anything!

BTW if a thread is deleted there's usually a good reason and starting another to continue the discussion isn't very helpful. this is a bit cryptic and non-explanatory! why was it deleted? if there was going to be an annoucement and now its all gone pear-shaped then someone should say so and stop the speculation. its not the first time there has been a lack of clarity leading to this sort of speculation. people have a right to be excited by potential finds - its one of the reasons they signed up for.

Apparently, someone heard from someone else that a fellow called "Darren" may know someone who knows someone else, who MAY know someone who has missing episodes.
It just takes time for people to pass the messages back and forth down the chain.

A cache of missing Top of the Pops or Ready Steady Go would be one of the most welcome things to me. But I will gladly accept whatever it is that's been recovered if that is indeed what this turns out to be!

For those who missed it, there was a tantalising post from Chris Perry on Roobarb's earlier today: "The announcement is due anyday, we are awaiting final clearance on the press release because it's a joint announcement between us (at Kal) and other third parties. I cannot say more than that at the moment for legal reasons." Makes you wonder what kind of developments in the obscure world of archive TV warrant a press release... I'd really like to know now what the big news will be! This is very exciting news indeed. The mind boggles! Do you have a link to Chris's comments Koen? Thanks. Dave Roobarb's is the equivalent of the masonic lodge for lost episodes, you need a secret handshake and a leg missing from your trousers to get in there ...and Lawrence hear ! hear !

I think this refers to that guy who has a hoard of missing top of the pops off air recordings, but wants a big wad of dough to release them. I have heard concerns about the continuing stability of the recordings on archaic tape formats.
Please jump in and correct me if I am wrong.

Could it be something to do with a thread I read on here several months ago of John Lennon having copies of Top of the Pops in both PAL and NTSC format video tapes, and Yoko Ono handing them back to the kaleidoscope and the BBC.

Sorry everyone, I've been otherwise engaged over the past couple of days and was told when the announcement was going to be made, so I am surprised not to see it here by now. I guess tweaks are being made. I know Chris Perry has mentioned something on Rhubarbs about an announcement. As far as I'm aware, the announcement I was talking about isn't anything to do with Kaleidoscope so you never know, there may be two lots of news coming.
I wanted to alert you all in advance because sometimes the threads drop down unless they're stickied and some don't get to see the latest ones.
Anyway, we'll see what the next few days brings.
Paul
