It was in late 1965 after Ginger Baker had fired him from The Graham Bond Organisation. He replaced Mike Vickers and stayed until May or June 1966. He's the bassist and backing vocalist on "Pretty Flamingo" and during his time in the band he recorded mostly instrumentals that ended up on "The Soul Of Mann" album. He left at the same time as Paul Jones. So he was there for 6 months or so.
Fascinating i never knew that i wonder if he was with the manfreds when they performed Pretty Flamingo on totp in 66 .

Just to reply to a couple of points from other posts, there is a performance of Blue Mink's Randy surviving in a 1973 Sez Lez and there are several clips of Harris / Meehan existing (and even a couple of Harris solo) including ones for Diamonds and Hully Gully.
Here are a few more acts i've never seen any footage of:
Dave Berry Kingdom Come Tomorrow Beck, Bogart & Appice Fontella Bass John Fred And The Playboy Band Velvet Underground (only home movies - not performances)
Is there anything of Thunderclap Newman apart from the Beat Club performance (and possibly a promo film) of Something In The Air?

The Velvet Underground indeed have to be the most visually underepresented artist in relation to their fame influence in the story of rock music.. the only footage (ignoring the 90s reunion) that ever seems to turn up is very early Warhol era 1966 stuff (and this consists usually just candid silent footage with studio tracks overdubbed), or that after-the-fact psuedo Velvets 1972 Paris concert as mentioned in the post above. Nothing from the actual meat of the bands existence, just 2 spots from either end. HOWEVER it is known that the band did several local TV spots during the 1968-9 touring phase.. personally I'm surprised more effort to track down these performances hasn't been made by VU afficionados..surely there's some chance they exist?

Here we go.. with info taken from olivier.landemaine.free.fr/vu/video/tv/tv.htmlWhat's the chances that 1) Angus MacLise was referring to a video recorder when he says he "taped" the 11/05/68 Upbeat show, and 2) If so, he still has the recording? None, probably! "January 8 [& July 15?], 1967, Upbeat, WEWS-TV (channel 5), Cleveland, Ohio Velvet Underground appearance with Guess I'm Falling In Love performance. The Cleveland TV Guide lists for January 8, 1967: "Upbeat - with Marvin Gaye & Tammie Terrel, The Music Explosion, Velvet Underground, 5th Estate and Donna Sears." In Psychotronic #33: The Velvet Underground (!) were on twice. Jamie Klimek (of the group Mirrors) saw them play many times. "In the period April 67 to March 69, The Velvets played Cleveland 7 times. After and appearance with the EPI at the Public Hall, they returned 5 times to play at La Cave. In early 67 they did Guess I'm Falling in Love (not on LP) on Upbeat! with Cale. On Oct 2 1968 [sic], the VU came in for another 3 day stand. This marked Doug Yule's first public appearance with the band. They played Run Run Run (from the first LP) with different lyric-live on Upbeat!" May 11, 1968, Upbeat, WEWS-TV (channel 5), Cleveland, Ohio In Angus MacLise's Brain Damage in Oklahoma City CD liner notes, Tony Conrad says: "On May 11 [1968], I tape the Velvet Underground actually appearing on TV--at noon on local Ch 5's "Upbeat" with the McCoys, Yarbirds, the Outsiders, and--Harami." In Chicago Tribune, May 10, 1968, Rob Baker says: "Channel 32's Upbeat show tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. features The Yardbirds, Bobby Goldsboro, Mary Wells, The Outsiders, Harumi, The McCoys, The Short Kuts, Kim Weston, Bob Francis, and The Velvet Underground." June [or July 15?], 1968, Upbeat, WEWS-TV (channel 5), Cleveland, Ohio Velvet Underground appearance with Run Run Run performance at a local TV show in Cleveland. Tom Cramer says: "The Velvets performed live on the Upbeat TV show in June 1968 (not June 1967). Moreover, contrary to Sterling Morrison's recollection, they performed a blistering, buzzsaw version of Run Run Run. Their rendition of Run Run Run went beyond their alloted time: thus, Upbeat cut away to a commercial while the Velvets were engaged in feedback frenzy with Lou's back to the camera."

Yes, I was thinking of those early Velvets TV appearances myself but who knows if they still exist?!? I get fed up with seeing those early Warhol movies which do not give any idea of the actual performances at all. As the appearances were U.S. TV, I would think there is at least an even chance of them surviving, even though they were regional programmes. As said, it's surprising no one has looked into it bearing in mind the band's reputation and influence!
Thanks also for pointing to existing material from those acts I mentioned too, Paul. I always wondered where that colour Zager & Evans clip came from. Probably U.S. TV of some description, i'd guess. Another act I thought was not represented by any clips of his big hit until recently (though i'm happy to be proved wrong) was Tommy Roe and Dizzy (1969). There's again a nice colour clip existing courtesy of U.S. TV!

There are Australian 1960s clips in existence from various TV shows for Eden Kane (Boys Cry and Sticks & Stones), John Rowles (aka Ja-Ar as he was known then) - (The End) and Jackie Trent (w/ Tony Hatch) - can't remember the title. There is also some colour home movie footage from 1961 of The Dennisons (local Manchester act) though I don't know if it is the same band mentioned in an earlier post.
For me, the biggest act with no onstage footage is the influential early-mid 1970s USA group 'Big Star' featuring the talents of Alex Chilton. They recorded 2 albums in 1973/74 that featured the great Chris Bell and yet not a skerrick of a TV appearance is known to survive. Perhaps they never even appeared on any TV show - they had no chart hits. Amazing if they somehow escaped the cameras. Would also love to see some footage of the (UK) Kaleidoscope.

Glad to have been of assistance here in regards to the Hurricane Smith footage as well as the material featuring The Action. I remembered seeing quite some time ago some footage of Tomorrow.Took a bit of sleuthing on youtube, but finally managed to find the appropriate clip segment again.I also remembered some Beck,Bogert and Appice,as well as an interesting clip featuring the Marvelettes performing "Please Mr.Postman": Tomorrow - My White Bicycle (1967) (Could this be from the rumored film Keith West had mentioned in that interview?Just curious is all. This is the only footage featuring Tomorrow have yet seen, would very much like to see more material from this unique group.Again any assistance or further info would be much appreciated indeed) www.youtube.com/watch?v=aALfVqGQOXc&fmt=18The Marvelettes - Please Mr. Postman - (Original Version) www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nuEY6fQgzk&feature=related&fmt=18Beck, Bogert & Appice - Superstition www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBpSeyk1z4o&fmt=18Beck Bogert & Appice- Morning Dew '73 www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgaNspTDyeM&feature=related&fmt=18Cheers,Lance.

Regarding Tomorrow...
We've already mentioned the mythical promo for "My White Bicycle." Nobody's seen it, not even the band so unless EMI unearth it - presuming it still exists, that's Missing In Action.
The b+w clip LanceM posted here is I believe, from French TV. Was part of some documentary. It's not the promo since it's barely in synch with the song. Either way, it is authentic live footage of this fine band in action.
There does exist mimed performances of 2 songs from Welsh TV of all places shot in very late 1967 shortly before the band split up. They mimed to "Bicycle" or "Revolution" (sorry can't remember precisely) and "The Strange Journey Of Timothy Chase." Screencaps of this can be seen in the booklet of the 1999 EMI CD reissue of their sole album. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be in circulation - certainly never appeared on YouTube nor in trading circles.
Then there's the "Smashing Time" movie where the whole band are seen in several sequences later on in the film... they're part of the custard pie sequence and the party on top of the Post Office Tower. No performance footage nor dialogue but it is amusing to see these brief flashes of the members of the band in glorious colour.
There was mention of Skip Bifferty earlier. They provided a song for that movie that sadly wasn't on the soundtrack album either. It's played during the very camp sequence featuring Murray Melvin's cameo. No images of the band sadly, and the song is a short 20 second burst. They do receive a credit in the title sequences as do "The Tomorrow."
Finally, the band were filmed at the infamous "Christmas On Earth" show at the Olympia in London in December 1967. Howe and West both recall seeing the footage shortly after admitting it was badly lit and filmed but they did recall it featured amusing footage of bassist Junior going nuts. It is believed the raw live recording on the RPM Records Tomorrow rarities album comes from that gig.
The whole gig was filmed but sadly they used poor quality stock film so the results were not fantastic. All that's ever appeared from that is a couple of songs by Jimi Hendrix and part of a song by Eric Burdon and The Animals. A shame since we have plenty of Hendrix footage but very little of Tomorrow. It was also one of Syd Barrett's last gigs with Pink Floyd... no footage or audio has surfaced of their set.
