Nirvana's 1968 Beat Club performance of 'Pentecost Hotel' can be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhcFereURCQOn the subject of Graham Bond, his appearance in the 1970 film 'The Breaking of Bumbo' shouldn't be forgotten.

Oh and there's also KALEIDOSCOPE, and although there is 1 or 2 clips of CARAVAN i'd like to see more from them and also some of the more obscure psychedelic and Freakbeat groups although most of these probably never appeared on tv in the first place.

During a wonderful holiday at Caister in August 1964, I remember seeing one of those early jukeboxes that had a film that played along with the record - and I clearly recall watching Screaming Lord Sutch performing "Jack The Ripper". It's the only time I ever heard the song! A long shot, but I wonder if any of these jukebox films survive? Do you mean scopitones Colin? Loads survive. They were very popular in France. Some famous scopitones are the Locomation featuring Jackie Lee and Bobby Vee The Night Has a Thousand Eyes With regards to scopitones, you'll find a great selection of them and the history Here scopitones.com/with lots of pictures and dvd compilations Also I can't remember or indeed find any footage of Johnny Preston - Running bear Emile Ford - What do you wanna make those eye's (or any footage for that matter) Russ Hamilton The paper Dolls (something here in my heart) Jackie - White horses Guy Darrell - I've been hurt (circa 73) Chairman of the board - anything from their hit period(70-73) James Darren - Goodbye cruel world Eden Kane - Well I ask you(some scopitone footage of obscure stuff aroud) The piglets - Johnny Reggae (any promo feat Jonathan King) Strange how so many Number one's and big hits are missing visual records I'm looking for any info on the band F F and Z if anyone can help, I think there was a connection with Maggie Bell ?

Here are a few more acts to add to the list of artists. I've never seen any footage at all of the following: Jeff Beck Group / Gerry Monroe / Jimmy Cliff / Hurricane Smith / Buffy Saint-Marie / Timebox / Laura Nyro / Brian Hyland / Hedgehoppers Anonymous / Big Three / Chairman Of The Board / John Leyton / Matthews Southern Comfort / Norman Greenbaum / Mr.Bloe / Wild Turkey / Fusion Orchestra
One or two of these may feature in later, more recent clips (Beck and Cliff definitely do) but I imagine Dave was meaning contemporary performances roughly from the time of the hits themselves.
BTW Alan, I believe there is a clip of The Birds in a very early Beat Club edition. Somewhere around 1965. I've a feeling there is something from The Zephyrs somewhere too but can't think where exactly right now.
Fascinating thread!

I think there's an existing appearance by Hurricane Smith in an early '70s BBC variety show (I forget which one offhand and I don't know which song(s) are featured). It's the only existing appearance I know of by him. It might be on something like Vera Lynn, Val Doonican or Nana Mouskouri.
There's a Southern Comfort appearance on an existing 1971 TOTP but it's without Ian Matthews. So not the classic line-up.

Johnny reggae appeared on TOTPs as a comic strip style cartoon IIRC there was never a live band on there. Maggie Bell of course did the orginal Taggart theme. The Paper dolls appeared on a Armchair Theatre play according to IMDB, but that is probably wiped. Jackie is on a surviving Golden Shot singing Rupert Bear.. maybe? Guy Darrell did appear on TOTPs- IIRC- but 1973 is a very depleted year.

Good to see there's more Hurricane Smith footage than I thought after all (colour too). No sign of Don't Let It Die yet though, which is the one I remember most.
That's a few other gaps filled in nicely too with Jeff Beck Group and The Action (as regards the latter, possibly both of these are assembled footage though, rather than original promos - can anybody identify for sure?)
Good news about Timebox, Peter, a band I was always curious about myself. Is their appearance a complete performance clip or do they just feature as an incidental piece of background? At least there's something of them - it's probably all there is unless anyone knows different. Did they make any promos for their singles?

Timebox are seen performing an instrumental number in a club scene shot at Lulu's. The instrumental is unremarkable but there are some good shots of the band. The Action footage was used in a VHS video entitled 'In the Lap of the Mods' which came out in 2000. I don't have my copy to hand so I can't say for certain whether it was all sourced from there. One group I'd like to add to the thread is Skip Bifferty.

OK. Some bits and pieces.
Yes, Jackie Lee is on a 1970 edition of "The Golden Shot" performing "Rupert The Bear."
The Action footage... the YouTube clips I've seen are all sourced from a January 1967 BBC documentary. There is supposedly a proper promo film of "Shadows and Reflections" and such a film was featured on a DVD of The Action which was part financed by Phil Collins a few years back which also featured the BBC documentary feature. I've not seen it though.
One performance by Jackie Trent definitely exists on a 1966 edition of "The Eamonn Andrews Show." Guests on that edition were Harry H.Corbett and Billie Whitelaw. Gerry Marsden performs a solo rendition of "Hallelujah I Love Her So." Jackie sings a brassy number live with the house band. No idea what it's called - it's not a song I've heard on any of her singles. Good performance!
The Rod Stewart era of The Jeff Beck Group... not seen any TV footage but there is silent colour footage of them onstage at The Fillmore in 1968 which was featured on one of those old Casey Kasem video goldmine VHS tapes.
Jimmy Cliff - There is the 1971 "The Harder They Come" movie which has a couple of performances and I'm sure he's on a late 60's "Beat Club."
Laura Nyro - There is 1967 outtake footage of a couple of songs from her performance at Monterey which was featured in the Monterey Outtakes DVD in the boxset.
John Leyton - From 1961, his appearance in "Harpers West One" where he played visiting pop star Johnny St Cere in which he mimes to his latest record - "Johnny Remember Me." There is "The Lonely City" in 1962's "It's Trad Dad."
Janie Jones has said she made an EMI promo film for "Witches Brew." Sadly there seems to be no sign of that nor any TV appearances.
The earliest known existing footage of John Mayall is from 1969. Absolutely nothing from earlier.
Indeed there is absolutely NOTHING of Johnny Kidd and The Pirates in action anywhere. It has been rumoured that Dave Clark owns a performance by him in an edition of "Ready Steady Go" but if he does have that, he's not letting anyone see it.
Talk of Timebox reminds me of the follow up band Patto. There is one performance from "Beat Club" but sadly it's another of those irritating CSO effect laden affairs BC were prone to where you barely see any good close ups of the band. Not found any other Patto footage. Another band who had a rotten deal on BC is The Third Ear Band. Anyone seen their performance of "Hyde Park" from that? Absolutely terrible visually. Not one close up and the band are pretty much illegible. So decent footage of them would be nice to see.
Have never encountered any vintage footage of Eden Kane in action. Jackie Lee's lovely "White Horses" seems absent from the archives as well.
The Birds appear in some 1965 movie in a cameo. Can't remember what it's called.
Anyone noticed how relatively little footage there is of The Swinging Blue Jeans beyond 1964? We have the two colour performances from one of those pop films performing "You're No Good" and "Don't You Worry About Me." A short mocked up colour clip of them recording "Hippy Hippy Shake" at Abbey Road with Wally Ridley and Norman "Hurricane" Smith. The NME Pollwinners, some badly dubbed footage shot on stage somewhere and an amusing German TV mime to "Das Is Prima." All from 1964. Absolutely no trace of later records so no "Don't Make Me Over" to name one.
