A 30 second clip of Jethro Tull performing 'Sweet Dream' from 30/10/1969 has turned up on YouTube imbedded in a German TV show from (no earlier than) 1971. It's definitely the TOTP performance as the stage arrangement matches a BBC photo of the appearance. the clip can be viewed at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jdabWjDzBcI guess this raises the possibility that the whole performance is resting in a German archive somewhere. To reiterate one of the comments left for this clip - are there any German readers in a position to investigate this?

This clip is either from 6th Nov 1969 or 13th Nov 1969.
No other clips from these editions have surfaced afaik. although the latter edition does have 'the archies - sugar sugar '(audience), and there has been some debate over this before if i remember correctly.

Thanks for the great posting Don,Fantastic to see this footage. I seem to remember some talk a ways back in regards to "Archie's-Sugar,Sugar (Audience Performance)" Of which, this 1971 TOTP April 29th audience/performance chart clip springs to mind .: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZcxWqFXSgY&fmt=18I have not heard of/seen any other related footage from these mentioned performances.Very interesting to see was used in a somewhat recent documentary. As was suggested on youtube (comments section) if the end credits or credits for the whole documentary were seen, might assist somewhat in ascertaining further details here.If I recall correctly Mr.Oliver Roemer who posted on the board in regards to the Enisfestival TOTP performances that were being shown seemed quite well versed in areas of German broadcasting and German Archival TV material.Might ya be able to have a look around for us Oliver? Thanks Again For sharing this rare piece of footage from Top Of The Pops,is certainly the earliest Tull footage I have now seen from TOTP.The previous one being the widely used "Witches Promise" from the 1970 edition. Cheers,Lance.

Wouldn't this have been one of the last (if not very last) TOTP to be broadcast in black and white, before the advent of colour to BBC1 just a couple of days later?

This is a welcome discovery. How is it possible, Pete, to know what episode out of two appearances it comes from? I am interested how you deduced this if no other bits of those shows exist to compare it with.

Just to correct the Kal guide, the Beatles promo for 'Something' was only partially shot at TITTENHURST (that was the bit with the Lennon's on it). The rest was shot in the Surrey homes of Harrison and Starr, and the McCartneys bit was was shot in and around the Mull of Kintyre.

And to be pedantic, the song is 'Sweet Dream' not 'Sweet Dreams'
I'm currently following up a lead in a Dutch TV archive which lists a Tull performance of 'Sweet Dream' from December 1969 on Hits-A Go-Go. It is likely to be a live performance taken from a German documentary but you never know, it could just be the missing TOTP performance.......

Keep us in the picture, Don! Always good to trace more lost TOTP. Hits A Go Go hasn't been checked fully as yet and I reckon there could be other pop shows too that will hold valuable material. Scandinavian TV particularly seems worth investigating.

How many times did Tull appear on Top Of The Pops? I think there was one for Living In The Past that's missing. I expect a few more too but it's the early songs of theirs that stick in my mind the most.
Any more clips found are very welcome news though. Makes you wonder how much more pop footage is waiting to be discovered. I wonder if the whole song is out there? Sounds like it might well be.
