i watched the xmas repeat of the 1973 xmas generation game last night. what a fantastic show with special guests Frankie Howard and Fannie Craddock. it really made me laugh and was good entertainment even if it was a bit dated. I notice that all of the shows from the first series are missing apart from the first episode which exists on 16mm film. i wonder if it would be possible to contact contestants to see if they made copies of their appearance

Has anyone seen the very first episode of Generation Game from October 1971. My father and sister were in it and I have been trying to track it down for years. This was the one and only episode where the winner and the audience genuinely did not know why you had to remember things on the conveyor!

I didn't know about that 16mm of the first show (does anyone know if it's a recent find?) but according to the Kal guide I have, there is also an end of series highlights show on tape.

Was it actually called 'Bruce's Choice' in the early years or is this just wikki?

The first series highlights show was originally broadcast the week prior to the first show of the second series. Contestants from the first series were sat in the studio with Bruce looking back over some of the games, including the Potters Wheel. This edition was repeated by UK Gold back in the 1990's, as part of a run of shows. It's such a shame that GOLD, as the channel is now, doesn't show it again instead of endless sitcom repeats. Those running GOLD will tell you that there isn't a demand for it, ditto Challenge TV, which should be showing it!
