Did he record any news coverage? I live in hope that one day we may find the BBC Apollo coverage. To both Colin & Joe; there are hundreds of tapes to go through, so cataloguing it first is what well do. I do have a hit list of titles which you'll find from about 3 years ago if you search for posts by me. The person who recorded these has an electronic database of the material but it's an old system which can only display one record at a time if you search on a title typed identically. Also, it's a DOS system. Regarding 'Apollo', we do now have virtually every Apollo 11 bulletin on audio and these are very high quality line recordings. I will make a list some time. Also, many have been bemoaning the fact that the BBC wiped the actual landing. In fact, the PasB of the landing does exist on Quad, dubbed to D3; I found it on a compilation tape. Also, the live commentary to the moonwalk also exists and was repeated on BBC4 in my documentary 'Apollo 11 - A Night to Remember' married to the correct pictures. Whilst I'd love to find some more studio PasB material, what we do have is pretty good. Regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
A huge well done and thank you for discovering and recovering 'A Stripe For Frazer's audio. that is fantastic.
I know it is very early days but is it likely something like this will eventually be released commercially? I'd love to get a copy.

Hi Paul
Just reinforcing everything thats been said already - an excellent well done!
Just wondering if the soundtrack to A Stripe For frazer would be good enough for broadcast quality on something like BBC7? I know the Radio version is widely available and has been broadcast a few times but I think this would be of great interest to DA fans all the same. As has been said there were significant rewrites to the radio series and in some cases not all the characters always appeared!
Anyway great work - many thanks for telling us about this!

Just wondering if the soundtrack to A Stripe For frazer would be good enough for broadcast quality on something like BBC7? Hi Andy, I've not heard the recording, but those that have tell me there is some annoying interference which manifests itself part way trough and is quite distracting. Whether it can be filtered out at some point, I don't know. Obviously, on the lookout for other recordings! Regards, Paul

I'd love it if there was an audio of anything from series 3 of Not Only But Also among this lot. That would indeed be something to cherish. I've always believed there must be some audio recordings of that series out there somewhere. This guy's cache of tapes sounds very promising though it will take a very long time to get through them all. Should be plenty of interesting material in there, so I look forward to hearing of any discoveries as and when they are made. The good thing is, these tapes are now safe!

I've always believed there must be some audio recordings of that series out there somewhere. Well, there is good news. There are two audio recordings of editions from series 3. This is what I've culled from his database. Obviously physical checks still to be done. My goodness gracious! (in best Jimmy Savile voice)
That is an incredible batch of material... hope they all play alright. Nice to see a whole batch of TOTP's in there... the 13-7-67 edition being of notable interest being one of the three infamous times Pink Floyd appeared on the show! The Turtles sole appearance on TOTP was repeated on that date too!

Guys, Not visual material, but I have now located an off-air SOUND recording of 'A Stripe for Frazer' from 1969. It's complete apart from part of the closing titles and even has the continuity. It has been transferred although I have yet to hear it. The tape also has several other programmes on which are also missing. Details later. It is a line recording although quality is still variable with a level change in the middle. Nevertheless, still better than nothing. This will be going back to the BBC archive. Regards, Paul For interest, if any of us ever get hold of lost BBC programmes, for example, Top of the Pops, should we send our editions/inserts to you, Andrew Martin, or another personnel/department at the BBC? Whether or not substantiated, I've read at some point that a few people have had no cooperation from certain BBC staff, who aren't interested in the recovery of lost shows. Not a reflection on the BBC as a whole, I'm just quoting what I read. Given the enthusiasm that you and Andrew have, I thought it was best to ask one of you, so that if I or anyone else becomes in receipt of lost material, we can then send it, or advise the owners, of where it should be sent, to ensure it reaches the BBC Archive department. Regrettably, I, personally don't have any of the missing editions or inserts from 1964-1977 editions of Top of the Pops, but among my findings online, I've posted up several details, with links where available, of editions/inserts that exist outside the BBC from TOTP, including Pan's People, Ruby Flipper and Legs and Co performances that are on the Database but without the dance groups billed. Although I knew that there was a certain amount of lost TOTP outside the BBC, of which I've since learnt of more after posting my findings, I never realized how much there was until I started compiling a list of links in July! It is very impressive, but hopefully much of it will find its way back to the BBC one day, as if TOTP 2 returns, or for any other BBC archive programmes, it would be fantastic to see some of these, in addition to what the BBC already has. However, despite the many losses, I'm pleased that the BBC, and NFTVA, have recovered a certain amount of lost TOTP, which just goes to show how much is out there! Likewise to other shows, I watched with interest a few years ago the recovery of two visual/sound copies of Dad's Army from 1969, and although there's no pictures with what you've recovered, Audio recordings are better than nothing for Dad's Army, TOTP, any show, which give a further representation to the programmes in question. Following on, from my other question, if any of us receive or come across owners who are willing to forward (or send a copy of) programmes that are officially missing, for Dad's Army or any other show, is there one department material should be sent to?, or would it depend on the programme in question?

Best people to approach with missing material are Dick Fiddy (via the BFI) or Chris Perry (Kaleidoscope). You can at least be sure the material will be safe and get back to the archives through them.

Thanks for your advice. This will ensure that the material reaches its destination and is preserved for future prosperity. Meanwhile, not knowing the best people to approach, I previously e-mailed Andrew Martin and Paul Vanezis with a copy of my TOTP updates. I'll, however, also keep in mind Dick or Christopher, like for other recoveries. You and other members are most helpful in assisting me and others with our questions and comments, which keeps updates continuously flowing. One day, I must get to one of these TV exhibitions.
