as far as aussie newspapers tv etc.. been there done that.. sevral times in the past 25 years, and not focusing on dr who (to get some intrest first) there are loads of homegrown TV lost, and i'd start the press sheet with that first. talking about the technology involded at the time the possible film recoverys and a potted history of the home recording methods for vision and audio. (the last one i sent even had a cd of selected highlights of INPORTANT HISTORICAL audio that ive transferd (properly with real turntables, TE Stulus Many types, Real Preamp that i made to work with many discs, and a restoration platform i developed., im also a broadcaster and made up a 5 min showcase of my many many 16 inch TS home cut restorations. ) hell i even have the assetate that the ABC used to start thier very 1st TV bdcasts .. (found falling to pices and can't be played, in a bin at my previous work!!) but after all this nothing not a sausage. no on cares .. just get that idea on board. Im a professioal and have worked in the media for years. and yes have had THE job to open the "DR WHO" letters and respond to the 100's of letters every day asking politley for us to look for any dr who film cans.. but leave the missing pete and dud and all those till death do us part, joe orton plays. forget those WHO CARES, its DR WHO its the ONLY show worth ANY consideration in the preservation stakes.. wanna know somthing that may make the "true" hunter's heart break? about 10 years ago i saw some 16mm prints of VERY VERY VERY VERY important missing shows at a film fair, My heart skiped a beat and i ran to the nearest ATM to withdraw all my funds!! i went back and all the cans were gone. i grilled the guy about them and he said "oh yes had some crazy Dr No (sic) fans here but all i had were till death (the titles he mentioned were very missing and about 90% of whats now gone and loads and loads of other prints again shows that i won't bother the WHO fans here with. well the who fans went away. and some crazy stoned uni guys bought everything to cut up and melt to make jewelwry with !! Yes, when your'e a media professional, syntax and grammar is very "inportant".

Although I'd suggest the above was a typo rather than bad syntax or grammar (neither of which occurred with the resulting spelling error...)

Well, it seems that somebody actually brought their funds with them to the film fair and were prepared to buy immediately. Next time take your money with you so you can get the item you want. ;D

Also, if any finger-pointing is to be done I'd have thought the most negligent person here would have been the seller - knowing full well what the ultimate fate of the item was to be. However, that part of the story doesn't ring true to any sellers of film I've ever come across - none of which would sell to someone professing to destroy the items in question...

Okok Is far as spelling goes, I'm a very poor speller. OK get bloody over it. I have 1000's of stories from the "missing film/radio" coalface so just a little underbloodystanding.
and as far as all the pointless "suggestions" about one of the many fairs I've attended.
Oh and the seller was an acquittance I'd see every now and then who would have a beer at the local with me after the event. the thing is Ive been on the trail of this stuff decades before most of you were even born and i know how arrogant that statement sounds but i did the whole hunting thing on my own without any help or any idea at first what was missing (although i had a 2 lists a Dr who one from the 83 RT special and a goon show list from 1978 ) decades ago without the INTERNET and without ANY idea there were any like minded guys ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD (look at that last statement and try to imagine that it's only you who wants to save these things!!) so yeah when i read stuff here for the most part it makes me laugh, a lot, it's like my humor boost for the day. and I'm not knocking you guys AT ALL what we need is a bloody great big page listing the various archives we have contacted and the results and have mini "projects" from that site, OK we could do it here but most ppl here do their searching by keyboard. ( let me stress again how many ppl i have met WITH stuff that have and will never be or know anyone remotely connected with the INTERNET or EMAIL ET ALL!!! memorize that statement as well) As im on the brink of being homeless ( landlord gave me 2 weeks to move and Newcastle is in a Housing crises + plus im unemployed so Am not "Alowed" to rent) I may never have the chance of reading this site again. or hopefulyy for a while, as i sell my rare one of a kind TS discs , TR's and Accetates (the real ones not bloody pop music 45's !!) just to feed myself and despratly cling to life. Thanks for all your "non" support over the years and all the times you knocked everything i had to say.
look the only reason i do this is a LOVE for many of the Radio and TV programs that are gone. in fact it's more that a love. being unemployed for several years (just after the Great IT crash) I had a hunch about Op Shops , Salvation army stores etc. so i took a couple of years working on a voluntary basis (in a unnamed store) so i could "be there" when vintage tapes disc's decks would come in. I saw some amazing stuff from deceased estates. but as the policy at the time was to dump all Film, VT (ALL FORMATS) and playback equipment. and to put all that stuff (and other electrical goods of course) in huge lockup's overnight until the daily "dump van" would come and take it to the dump. I had to load this truck most days and the things I've seen would make ya hair curl. i wont name any shows. cause its the pain I have to live with. but there was nothing i could do, not a thing . i wrote to all the guys "in charge at head office " wrote to my local MP , wrote to the media, TV etc etc,, but it was a written LAW that could not be revoked. so after 2 years i left.

If that were me though I think I'd have risked the sack to preserve anything I was really interested in eg Who, TOTP. It's not like getting the sack from a job at a charity shop would have had any bearing on getting back into IT.

You really do have a problem! I would seriously suggest you seek help and I am not trying to wind you up. You set yourself up as a self-proclaimed expert and deride all comments made on this site and then take umbridge when anyone disagrees with you or corrects your spelling! Is that what you did at school? Tell the teachers to "get bloody over it" when they tried to correct you. I am sorry your life appears to be a mess. Mine isn't a bowl of cherries at the moment, but I won't inflict my problems - or blame them - on a site that has nothing to do with them. Ron

Dear, oh dear... We certainly do attract them, don't we?
Oh... and, though it's neither the fault nor the concern of people on this forum, I'm also out of work at the moment awaiting an operation for a ruptured disc in my back.
However, it does mean I get to spend more time with my kids. So, even though I spend every day in excruciating pain, my life is pretty brilliant.
I don't allow myself to be affected by comments posted on a message board by people I don't even know. Any day spent above ground is a good one. It's all a matter of perspective...

Just about everytime I go to a fair or show I always find some missing treasure. Last year I actually noticed that the one true Holy Grail was for sale on a stall at a local market and I had to rush to the nearest ATM because I always go to these events with no money and there are always ATMs conveniently located nearby. When I got back the stall-holder told me it had gone. I knew it was the real one as it had a certificate signed by the Pope himself... anyway apparently this guy with wings just happened by and snapped it up.
Sorry... I just couldn't help it...
