For me it would be a toss-up between "The Invasion", "The Power Of The Daleks 1." As for a Hartnell story I quite like "The Tenth Planet 4" or "Galaxy Four." Ideally I would like to see part four of The Tenth Planet and part one of The Power Of The Daleks back to back, it would be wonderful to see the regeneration scenes of the lead roles (for the first time). To get a feel of both actors' characters in two episodes running in continuity would be great. After having seen the telesnaps on this site.

For me it would have to be Evil ep 7.for Troughton and The Destruction of Time for Hartnell to see the death of a companion and Evil for the "Final end" of the daleks. To be honest, any episode returned is great news

I've never really been excited at the prospect of Tenth Planet 4 turning up - after all, we have the most interesting bits (ie the regeneration) and I've always thought Tenth Planet a rather dull story with a reputation inflated by the fact it is the first Cybermen / last Hartnell story.
On the other hand, the chance to see some of Marco Polo or The Massacre is much more desirable!
And Evil Of The Daleks 7, Web Of Fear 6, Fury From The Deep 6 or Dalek Master Plan 12 have always sounded like far more exciting 'climactic' episodes than Tenth Planet 4.....
Then again, episode 4 of The Space Museum probably sounds exciting on paper...

For me its got to be Fury from the Deep, still we at least we have a brilliant fan reconstruction of that story

Definatly agree on "Fury From The Deep" Brilliant! For Hartnell no real preference; exept to say that I could never really stick with the Historical ones. "Marco Polo" I recall I only watched about Three of them, got really bored (I was 8 years old then) and went out to play for the next few weeks. Apologies to fans of these stories, but I just couldn't stick with them. ASM

I would have to go for the three missing episodes of The Underwater Menace, just for the sheer brilliance of Professor Zaroff. A most under-rated (but over-acted)performance from Joseph Furst.

This is a very hard question, but I'd probably say The Daleks' Master Plan: 1, 3, 4, 6-9, 11 and 12 for William Hartnell and The Power of the Daleks and The Underwater Menace: 1, 2 and 4 for Patrick Troughton.

Its interesting that the Underwater Menace is getting do many votes. I must say I do love watching the extant episode! Curious about these recons though..where do you get them from (obviously somewhat under the counter a bit)?. I have come across a Web of Fear recon , but that was via a friend of a friend who I have lost touch with. and my vote on best missing episode would be anything more from the Web of Fear...though ANY more Troughton would be nice

The best Hartnell mainly exists now for me bar tenth planet 4, which is THE one. Troughton, I'd say, Evil 7, Evil 5 ( ? ) (one where Jamie rescues Victoria at start then Daleks become friendly at climax), moonbase ep 3, abominable snowmen 6, Web of fear 2 (for end where yeti are coming one way & the web the other in tunnel); Fury 6, Fury 4, Fury 1, Fury 2, Web of fear 6, Wheel in space 1 or 2 (where robot releases eggs), Power 4, Power 6, Power 1, Ice warriors 2 or 3 (so we can see the rest of them thawing out). I'd like to see perhaps ep 1 of 'space pirates'. This is mainly as it represented the story better than 2. To those who don't know, the rest wasn't as good as 2, it was boring ( ! ) but featured actor Dudley Foster as the main villain (doesn't appear at all in 2). I'd also like to see the episode of 'Enemy' where someone (Kent ?) feigns death with tomato ketchup on his tunic and forehead - ep 4 ?

I had a premonition the other night that "Mission to the Unknown" will be found very soon somewhere near a river in the UK (a town or city probably - or even on a boat of some sort).
Believe that if you will - however this is one Hartnell episode I would like to see returned. Certainly it must be argued that this episode is the one anomaly in the entire series and comes across as more an example of something like "The Twilight Zone" than "Doctor Who".
Yes I know Hartnell himself doesn't appear in it (who knows? maybe that works in its favour...). Great script, tightly woven plot and even works well as a 'stand alone' story - we don't even need "The Dalek's Masterplan" to complete this episode.

I suppose this is desperately off-topic, but I remember these eps from their first showing so a few comments:
web of fear was easily the strongest story of the missing ones. It's the story that everyone who saw it still remembered 2 or 3 years afterwards if you mentioned Dr Who. By the way, though the end of ep 2 is a good scene, it was obvious how they were going to get out of it.
Fury is one everyone talks about today but at the time - although the foam and Oak and Quill were quite fun - neither I nor my schoolfriends found it anything more than a routine story.
Mission was also a really tense episode (as a kid anyway), the Varga plants were dead scary! As far as I can recall, they pretty much never turned up again.
The Whitaker Dalek stories I found quite boring at the time - I think his writing is better appreciated as an adult in fact. I didn't as a child appreciate the wit of a Dalek asking human beings why they kill each other. One scene I do especially remember as finding tense is where in "Power" they are trying to get out of a room though a ventilation grille while the Daleks are coming towards them.
Regarding Underwater menace - even at the time as an uncritical 10-year-old fan of DW, I knew this was a bad story.
If I had to choose one episode today, I think it would be ep 6 of Power.

Web of fear for me would be the holy grail out of them all. Best dramatic moments. Any Troughtons found would be good though too.

Wow, great responses. Another one to add would be an episode of Hartnell's favourite story Marco Polo, just to visualise the scenery would be great to see after seeing the telesnaps in DWM.

In additon to those above I would really like an episode of "The Massacre" to see Hartnell playing both the Doctor and the Abbot. They sound greatly different on the audio but would like to see how different the mannerisms were.

Further to the "Mission to the Unknown" premonition I also have a hunch that a good deal of "Power of the Daleks" will be found at some point. I guess we should put that on the wish list to, eh?
