Well for me I am a huge fan of Patrick Troughtons episodes. I am currently in contact with a number of film archivists/ Collectors here in the USA and I have a very strong feeling that "Web of Fear" will turn up, its just a hunch, but who can tell. Add this to the list of episode recovery hunches. I hope you are right because I thought Patrick Troughton's Dalek and Yeti stories were fantastic. A recovery of any of those stories would be like winning the lottery. Sadly, many film collectors I have contacted say that they have telesnap recons of episodes 2-6 of The Web of Fear and the other lost stories, but they never have copies of the actual episodes themselves.

Best or most important? Or are they the same thing?
I.E. I think MASTERPLAN 12 might be one of the best missing eps of that but its not the most important 'missing' period of Hartnell or story.
I think the most important missing episode is TENTH PLANET 4.
Most of the best Hartnell otherwise exist now largely though I would like to see the Trojan fight on a beach in MYTH MAKERS again.
The most important missing Troughton has got to be EVIL.
Most people would at least like to see the first episode of POWER (i'd like to see the complete conveyer belt sequence again).
I personally think that FURY and ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN were key stories and would like to see these again complete.

'Web Of Fear' was the one stand out story I really remember as a child. I felt a bit disappointed by the patched up VHS issue

For me, it would have to be all the missing Dalek adventures. What's left of "Masterplan" is excellent and it would be lovely to see the whole thing, especially Mavic Chen becoming increasingly unhinged by the week. "Power" is the most important Who adventure in the shows history being Troughton's first and he and the Daleks had to win over the fans into accepting the then unheard of "regeneration" concept. "Evil" is just a wonderful story and the sole existing episode hints at a tale well realised.
Funnily enough the Yeti ones don't interest me at all. Don't really care for the existing "Abominable Snowmen" episode. "Web" episode 1 is great but I can imagine later episodes getting rather tedious with the same tube set being used in every imaginable permutation... it probably would had been much better as a 4 parter judging from the materials that's been available to us.

I'd really like to se THE ENEMY OF THE WORLD in its entirety just to marvel more at Troughton in a dual role. While for Hartnell it would be CELESTIAL TOYMAKER, I'm also quite intrigued by THE SMUGGLERS as well as the obvious TENTH PLANET 4.

I'm still enamored by Fury from the Deep as one I would love to see. Also The Daleks' Master Plan and The Power of the Daleks would get my vote...

Web Of Fear and Evil Of The Daleks by a very long margin for me.
Oh, maybe Fury From The Deep and Power ep 1 (being the post-regeneration episode) as well. Incidentally, I saw both Web and Power originally but don't remember seeing Evil or Fury at the time (and my wanting to see these latter two is solely based on the excellence of the surviving episode and brief clips).

Hmm, if I could have complete stories then in this order, Web of fear, Abominable snowmen, Fury of the deep, Macra terror. Odd episodes, I would probably just pick eps from which ever stories werent represented at all, and DMP 12, as it looks corking. But this list changes from day to day

Incidentally, I saw both Web and Power originally but don't remember seeing Evil or Fury at the time (and my wanting to see these latter two is solely based on the excellence of the surviving episode and brief clips). Generally people of that generation I've spoken to outside my own view cite 'Evil of the Daleks' and 'the one where the Cybermen came out of a wall' as the most meorable. You could guess the latter; the first is referred to as 'a battle between Black and Silver Daleks in a cave. One Dalek says WHAT IS THE QUESTION to another'. Actually I think the line was 'ours is to obey; not to question'. A Silver Dalek asks 'why' then the Black lid Dalek (Imperial guard) shoots him. I recall the close up shots of the battle were VT and the cutaway distant shots film. Would be interesting to know how much would survive if the BBC had kept all the film from that serial. I recall a lengthy middle sequence where Jamie rescues Victoria all on film. I now seem to think I recall a sequence where Maxtible is looking mesmirised and illuminated in a corridor about to walk through a hexagonal cornered arch. When he comes through he walks stiffly like a Zombie. I recall a bit in the same corridor where the Doctor lodged something into the button cavity by it then darted out of the way. This sequence was on VT but now my mind is nagging that the Maxtible bit might have been a film insert. The end of 'FACELESS ONES' was on film and dovetailed into 'EVIL'. There was a fade from black after that last episode showing next weeks show. This was a film sequence of Doctor and Jamie chasing the TARDIS. I now think it would be nice to have both those stories; partly as FACELESS ONES is underrated; but also as they link up nicely in a key point of Troughtons era. Someone said years ago the missing first TALKBACK also featured clipd from 'Ice Warriors' and 'Macra Terror' so if they still had that it would act as a tiny potted archiive.

I know what you mean; any Troughton is worth watching. As far as I can recall this was a less strong performance than his cameo in ADAM ADAMANT LIVES. The first two episodes were very padded and revolved around the arresting of the time travellers and grilling by Giles Kent. I'm not sure if there was anything or much of SALAMANDER prior to ep. 3. The best episode for that aspect was the last; when the two I think were seen in a divided screen effect face to face. By some ruse the Doctor seemed to have ended up dressed as Salamander and the Assistants couldn't tell which was which. The TARDIS turned on its side and one got sucjed out into space. I think Troughton was briefly sinister to them to imply the wrong one had survived. This explains what has just happened at the mysterious start of WEB OF FEAR; a classic for some curious reason I can't recall beyond the third episode!
