Who knows how much money the collectors want, but if there are 6 private collectors with missing Doctor Who episodes then there are two things for certain.
1. They defently know how rare the episode(s) they hold are and that it hasn't been available to the public or BBC since the 60s. 2. They will never just give away or let BBC or the Restoration Team borrow the films, they want money and that is all.
Unless BBC or the Restoration Team gives them the money they want, then the 6 missing episodes are most likely going to be held and hidden from the public until after the collector's death or until the films have become too old and broken to be played.

There are other ways to make money which don't involve either bringing mysery to other people or witholding from them something which would make them very happy.
I don't want to resurrect an old conversation here but I, personally, would not lie happy in my deathbed thinking that this is what I'd done with my life. I would lie happy in my deathbed if I thought that I, at least, hadn't done any of this and perhaps even managed to do the opposite - i.e. prevented mysery or brought happiness - to some little effect if nothing else.

I'm not sure that's correct.
To a certain mentality, having a unique item, knowing that they are the only person in the world who has it, is more valuable than mere money.
Some things just aren't for sale at any price.

How is giving us 9 missing episodes leading us on a merry dance? Happy Dance? Because it wasnt Paul V that continuously went on about The wind blowing, be prepared for when you least expect it, the never ending arguments on web sites resulting in him almost losing the plot at one point. Yes I agree, he found 9 prints, so did Ian Levene and others have found prints too. But we didnt have this Omnirumour that sprang from that find, with Phil almost encouraging it at times with ill judged comments. A lot of people really believed there was more to come, that he was onto something, but here we are...nothing. At least Paul V has had the sense not to do that. So thats what I meant. Its my opinion, it may not be yours, but hey ho,...thats life.

PM put his own resources into the ME hunt and also recovered a decent haul of non DW MEs - and when he started he was told that he was fishing in a dry hole.

When I think of Phil's ongoing ME hunt, I am reminded of Galatians 6 v 9: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up"

Well they will get no money out of me. Thank you to all those who willing returned missing material over the years. From serious hunters like Ian Levine and Philip Morris to those film collectors who returned material. We owe you all a huge debt. The wonderful who hero Terry Burnett recently passed away I believe thanks to him a Hartnell and Troughton I thought gone for ever sit proudly on my collection. We classic who fans owe all these people and more not mentioned a great debt for the gaps they willing filled. Thank you all

We are fortunate to have all of pertwee ( now in color) , most of seasons 1,2,5, and 6 . And all the audios , reconstructions and animations (some really good and some really bad) This is more than the 80s where most of season 5 was missing.
Hopefully more is hidden away.
Maybe with ai they will be able to recreate movement with telesnaps.. but I'm appreciate where we are

As a collector, I need to reiterate that the money may be completely irrelevant to those who have missing episodes. The fun is knowing that you have them, other people want them, and that they can't have them. The one thing that would work would be a trade of something equally desirable from someone who is willing to lose the deal for the benefit of fellow fans of Doctor Who.
I have made copies of a few ultra-collectibles for family and friends, which really irritated my fellow collectors to the point that several will not deal with me. ("I made a copy for my girlfriend's birthday" and "my late cousin was dying of cancer and he was a fan" do not fly among these people.) The people's standing in the rest of the collector community may concern them more than any psychological utility of doing good.

None of us are gonna be around forever, So it's high time we stopped walking on eggshells, and these collectors are exposed (:

None of us are gonna be around forever, So it's high time we stopped walking on eggshells, and these collectors are exposed (: Why? That's just asking for chaos and issues. You don't know how the collector may react to that and it is an invasion of their privacy.

Chaos? A few emails? I imagine the original collector would be dead by now.
