Maybe someone is holding it back to launch the "Download Store" mentioned in the General forum. The BBC Download Store was mooted for launch this Easter. Has it been delayed yet again; or is the whole thing dead in the water? I think The Underwater Menace as a DVD release is definitely dead in the water, unless they manage to find the other missing episodes. As for the download store, the release date is like a video game. It keeps getting pushed back.

The online petition to get it released is publicised in the latest issue of DWM.

The DWM article says that 'they are reviewing the best possible way to bring fans more classic Dr Who'.UM is the last story of existing classic episodes to be released. This really seems like a cryptic announcement. The release of 1 one more unreleased episode isn't 'more classic Dr Who'.To my mind this means that more recovered stories are going to be released. It certainly seems like a bounty may be on the way.

Or, far more likely, they are looking at ways to re-release the existing content in different formats to a whole new generation of fans, given that the DVD range had already been going for five years before the new series began.

Can't see that happening in all honesty Richard. The degree of inertia towards the end of the range by the BBC was palpable. Can't really justify the BBC's overstatement if it just concerns re-releases in whatever form.

Richard is almost 100% likely to be correct. You, I'm afraid, are almost 100% likely to be disappointed, especially if you're expecting "a bounty".

Maybe the 2 delays have something in common The delays for the download store are probably because it isn't functioning the way they want it to.

There are of course others ways to present missing material. I am thinking here of the 'Power of the Daleks' flash player reconstruction which didn't do terribly well in sales and was not followed-up. My point is, the BBC doesn't necessarily have to follow the DVD route, especially if animation is prohibitively expensive for more than a couple of episodes.

At this point, I'm very happy that we now have all the pert wee in color, and all but one Hartwell and troughton out on DVD. Restored with 7 episodes animated
Now if we just got 4 more animated, (crusade and um). sadly, I think that is the most we can hope for with the current state. (If that much)

Thanks to anybody who's helped to show their support for The Underwater Menace DVD, either by signing the petition or by contacting BBC Worldwide directly. The petition has now reached over 2,500 signatures, and has been promoted by several figures closely associated with Doctor Who, including former companions Anneke Wills (Polly), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Nicola Bryant (Peri), Sophie Aldred (Ace) and Yee Jee Tso (Chang Lee), new-series writers Paul Cornell and Mark Gatiss, and Doctor Who Magazine editor Tom Spilsbury. All being well, we're planning on submitting the petition within the next week, with an update to follow once the exact date has been finalised. If you're interested in seeing the final unreleased rediscovered Doctor Who episode released and haven't yet signed, please add your support here while you can: tinyurl.com/savethefishpeopleThanks again to anyone who's supported the release so far - let's not let The Underwater Menace get lost beneath the waves!
