The truly magnificent and great (my personal opinion) Are you being served was of course written by David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd (not Jimmy Perry). Has anyone seen Mrs Slocombe's girl thingy since the programme ended?

Has anyone seen Mrs Slocombe's girl thingy since the programme ended? There was (is?) a very good fanzine on all the Croft/Lloyd/Perry shows named after Mrs.Slocombe's Pet.I cherish the cheque stub.

Thanks for the link John
I'll take into consideration what they said and then make my own judgement as I watch the series from the start.

IIRC OFAH was mostly cut due to rights issues on songs, & David Jason wanting a line or 2 editing for personal reasons.

A little off topic but in keeping with the censorship 'agenda' theme of this thread (and questioning WHO is doing it & why...?) - I watched a bit of the Croft & Perry show on BBC 2 last night (I had not planned to but I wanted to see 'Dad's Army' and it was on before so I watched it) I assumed it would just be a 'tribute' - and old footage of interviews of the pair at various times, including very old b/w interviews, were in keeping with that idea however I noticed a recurring theme being 'plugged' throughout the 20 minutes or so I saw - a 'typewritten' message was put up, and it always seemed to relate to the 'Roles of women'! I began to notice how endlessly the work of messrs C & P was related to how 'women' were depicted in each show....even stating 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' was a success DESPITE not having any 'women' in it...!! (er what about Mrs. Waddilove-Evans ?) time & time again any show, be it 'Dad's Army', 'Hi De Hi', 'You Rang M'Lord ?' was keenly examined for social portrayal and especially re how 'women' were depicted as if some kind of feminist agenda was being worked through... I seem to recall those shows had other aspects to them, including ALOT re class distinction, and many MALE characters carefully depicted etc....but (to me at least) this tribute show seemed only to want to look at the depiction of the role of 'women' in society - repeatedly Did anyone else see this this & notice such an angle to the programme ? I must admit I got rather fed up having the same old message repeatedly driven home.... That was episode 3 in a series of 4. The others dealt with class, war etc. I should know - I helped make them!

was it you who decided to fill that part up with all the 'agenda issues' that modern TV seems so obsessed with ?

was it you who decided to fill that part up with all the 'agenda issues' that modern TV seems so obsessed with ? ? Episode 3, Birds and Bees, was all about sex and sexuality. Not just 'women'. So, for example, it looked at the relationship between Barry and Yvonne in Hi-de-Hi!, a gay man married to a woman, or Mainwairing's relationship with Mrs Gray in Dad's Army, where he was tempted to find happiness with another woman, but didn't because of 1940s social morality. Now sure what 'agenda issues' they relate to. But they were just as much a part of Perry and Croft's writing as class or war.

Once again, a rubbish program. Typically they edited and took Benny Hill sketches completely out of context, but that just seems normal in the UK. What a pathetic place it must be to live in the UK, if this sort of televised crap "documentaries".
And a big shame on you to Bill Oddie, for participating in this crap, and then having the ordeal to appear shocked at the Hill clips, when he wrote the exact same type of material along with Graeme Garden for the first few years of the Goodies (Caught In The Act episode anyone?)
Once again, and it's so bloody obvious it isn't funny, the whole joke is always on BENNY!, he is always the loser, the one who gets beaten up by people, killed etc..
