Does anyone know why this book, and a few other Target Books are so expensive to buy online? I know that The Wheel in Space is rare due to half the stocks being destroyed in a warehouse fire, but this book is hard to find and I just can't understand why.
"UPDATE"
Hi everyone, just saying that now I have a copy of The Rescue I think it makes sense to just say that the thread is now just Target Books in general.

I know that The Wheel in Space is rare due to half the stocks being destroyed in a warehouse fire, but this book is hard to find and I just can't understand why. The print run was very limited. I worked in book distribution at the time. Fury, Wheel, seeds of death, Macra. All limited print runs.........

I got lucky back in 1999. I'd had exactly the same problem, especially finding Wheel In Space which is rare as hen's teeth - didn't have a chance in hell of finding that one for less than £50 at the time. Thankfully I managed to win a copy on Ebay (I forget how much for but it was less than that, probably around £30), and turned out the guy was looking to offload all his Target novels and offered them to me! He had all the rare ones, so I was able to cherry pick them and a quite a few others I needed off of him, along with a huge chunk of Doctor Who Magazines. Think I paid £5 for each book.
Prior to that in 1997 I'd found Fury, Seeds of Death, Mysterious Planet, Mindwarp, Vervoids and few more listed in an online bookstore in the USA. They were more than happy to send me the ones I wanted though warned me the postage would be a bit high. Still worked out cheaper than buying them over here, even before UK postage fees were added, so I went for it!
Can only wish you luck finding The Rescue. I know how difficult it was for me building a collection in the mid-late nineties. 15 years on I expect it's a lot harder - especially if you want them in a decent condition!

As we're going a bit off topic, if anyone has any of the hardback versions of the Target novels (Longbow, Wingate, WH Allen) that they'd be happy to part with, please drop me a PM, as I have some gaps in my collection as well as a lot of titles in need of upgrading!

Ka-CHING!!!! Let me start going through my boxes. Question: Anyone know if the Target novelizations or the Missing Adventures or any of the other runs are going to ever be made available on Kindle or some similar format? I loved them all, but I just don't have the space for them.

The Waterstones in Stockport had a load of Neon logo Target novels well into the 1990s, I was really surprised when I 1st went in around 1993!

The Rescue novel writer Ian Marter was such a lovely man and he made such a great book out of a short tale...

Still have my copies of The Rescue and The Wheel In Space. Not sure about the rarity of my hardback copy of The Massacre. Couple of obscure ones I picked up years ago, were the US prints of Talons of Weng-Chiang, and Revenge of the Cybermen. Also, going slightly off topic, still have my Technical Manual from the 80s, but never have built a Dalek yet.

I still have my hardback copy of The Wheel In Space. Think it's only been read once.

I have them all. Now going for cover variations. Fortunately I kept mine. I bought Wheel in Space and the Rescue when they were released. It's the new adventures that are generally more expensive (apart from Evil). Lungbarrow has been my most expensive Doctor Who book so far. The WH Allen hardbacks are also difficult to find. I've probably only got around twenty of them.
