This is Waugh (ATV, 1976)
Anyone know the archive status of this series by Auberon Waugh? It was made for ATV in 1976, broadcast at 8.30 pm on 9th, 16th and 23rd August. A bit obscure I know, and if I had to guess I would presume that it didn't survive when ATV came to an end/became restructured, if it even survived that long. Could be in the tapes that Carlton (?) are going through at the moment though, but I can't imagine I'll ever get to see the shows even if they are! The Times reviewer makes it sound like quite a fun series, and it was shown with a "sanitary cordon" that said it was Waugh's personal opinion and not those of ITV, or something along those lines. He also made a one-off thing for ITV called "Waugh Memorial" back in the early '90s but that will still exist of course. I can't see that being repeated either though. Just to say, I heartily recommend the collected Private Eye "Diaries of Auberon Waugh", it's one of the funniest books I've ever read. I always turn to it if I'm feeling a bit glum.

Is this the series that John Pilger always claimed was made to 'balance' his documentaries?
In one of his books ('Heroes' I think) he writes about the IBA and/or ATV requesting films that would give the opposite political view to what he was doing at the time and Waugh was thought the ideal choice!
If these were film documentaries I'd imagine they had a good chance of survival.
