The blackadder pilot was considered, but apparently Rowan decided against it. The persistent fan can find an acceptable copy if he really tries. I didn't realise that. It's good that it was considered, though - which implies that there may be more than 'acceptable' copies available to the Powers That Be. The 1998 interview and 1999 Python night are already available in both R1 and R2. The R1 is the "Monty Python Live" 2 disc set including Live at the Hollywood Bowl and the first of the two German episodes. It's nice but the python night is slightly censored (the sports violence) and the original captions are missing (in the documentaries). Oh, I didn't realise it was all on there... thanks. The R2 is called "Live at Aspen", it also contains the uncensored Python Night including the captions. But it only plays per sketch and item. It can't play in the original order, so the short sketches connecting the documentary items loose their meaning. But the disc is there, it's not unreleased. I was thinking more that 'everything' could be collected in one massive set, rather than that just unreleased items could be included. That way, there could be interesting (easy) comparisons between live and episodic sketches. (I would like to see the entire Graham Chapman memorial service tape, but I suppose I never will. It isn't strictly Monty Python so it wouldn't be on these discs.) Who would own that? Would it be Mr Cleese, Mr Chapman's archive, or whomever took the video...? The BBC Comedy Connections programme could be of interest - and would there be a chance of 'Hastily Cobbled Together...' being included as an audio track, would you think...?

Blackadder pilot: it's just what I heard. Copies have been copied and copied so what tape traders have is a bit fuzzy, but I can't imagine the master has been wiped. Apparently the pilot leaking out was not an incentive to release it properly. Everything in one set: bit of a story without end. That would also mean both German episodes. And you mention the hastily cobbled together thing too. The latter isn't very good actually. Once you start including audio outtakes there would be no end to it. No, if it's a non-censored box with the bits that were missing restored and possibly a few bits of raw material like outtakes, I will be more than satisfied. Who owns the Memorial service tape? I have no idea. The BBC? It is not lost or anything, because it was used a few times for documentaries. The Chapman archive is a self-appointed institution, that does very little and does not actually own the rights to anything. Note. I have no access to official sources, I just have a lot of Python DVD's and try to keep track of threads like this. (It's a recurring theme...)

Anybody out there know why the "Comedy Ahoy" bit was cut [recently] from the U.S. version of Series 3 ep.12? Was it just some berk who thought that the show was over?
